Help with chooseing Black and white inks

2004-01-12 by merpb2003

Hi all,
I am based in the UK and and have a question regarding which ink
sets are best for my Epson 1290S.
I thought I was getting very respectable mono results using Epson
colour inks but was advised that printing in black only was better.
Having tried it and I love the rich black but find the dot pattern
intrusive.
Does anyone have experiance of independant B&W inksets? and how do
they compare.
I have looked at PiezographyBW system but am initially put off by
the thought of having to order from the US.
My questions are:
1 Is PiezographyBW as good as they claim?
2 Does anyone in the UK use PiezographyBW? and if so how are
deliveries?
3 What other systems should I look at?
Thanks
Richard

Richard,

you may take a look at:

http://www.mwords.co.uk/index.htm

More in our Links section. Also, it may be a good idea to search our archives for more
info. Please keep in mind that once you switch to bw inks, you pretty much dedicated
the printer to mono. Switching back and forth is not really practical.

The main inksets these days are either the piezo (inkjetmall.com) or the UT set from
inksupply.com

Hi,

     Try googling for "Lyson ink"

As far as I know they are in the UK and are one of the best 3rd party
ink manufacturers. I believe you can use "Quad" tones and "Hex" tones
which I think will partially overcome the dot pattern problem.

     Best, Alex

I too am in the UK and use a 1290s. To my eyes, not all images suit BO
printing. There seems to be more ink options in the USA.

I've been trying to make my mind up between trying inks from either Lyson or
Permajet, both easily obtainable here. To help me make up my own mind I'll
be looking at the Permajet display at the Focus On Imaging exhibition at the
NEC Birmingham near the end of Feb. Can anyone using the Permajet Blax inks
comment either good or bad?

Hi, Richard,

I have not ordered inks from the US from England - I live in Greece -
but was disdappointed by the service from Permajet in the UK. I have
ordered from MIS in the US for delivery to Greece and the inks
arrived in, if I recall, eight days with USPS. Compare the prices!
And with the dollar down even more of a bargain, even I guess after
paying taxes! I have had bulk feed MIS FSN inks in my 1160 for
nearly two years with seldom a clog - none even after three weeks
vacation in the UK over Christmas, and that after installing Eboni in
the black position.

I am still trying to make up my mind for the 1290 - probably the UT2
set when it is clear the curves work in this machine and with the
1290 driver.

I wouldn't let ordering from MIS put me off.

Colin
