Giclee print IMO is just a more noble word for "inkjet" print - comes from french word "giclée" (bubble) - was originally used for the IRIS printer, nowadays sometimes used for "fine art prints".

Is it appropriate and/or acceptable to refer to quadtone prints (using piezo
or MIS inks on an epson printer) as Giclee prints?

  If not, why not?

You can if you want. "Iris" Gicl\ufffde is trademarked, but just Gicl\ufffde
isn't. It does sound a bit snobbish though, and in french slang, means
to ejaculate, so it really isn't a great term, I wouldn't think.

NOW we're getting somewhere, folks! I beg to differ Jerry; I feel
like with this type of branding for inkjet, we finally are getting near
something that the art world can identify with!

I say we all separate into our own little groups, then reconvene
on Monday morning and see how far we can push this art world
branding scheme. If it was up to me, the first order of business
would be to get one of these babies into the hands of Andres
Serrano.

Mark,

I can see in my mind exactly what Serrano would do with a piezo print.
He'd put it in a mayonaise jar and fill it with his own personal Urine,
or perhaps someone else's own personal Urine, and call it "Piss Piezo".

And then take a picture of it with film and print as a cibachrome.

Oh, and I think that's what his studio assistants were for...they trained by
drinking gallons of beer the night before.
