black ink bad?

black ink bad?

2004-01-28 by laraley2001

A couple of years ago I joined this group in order to create better black and
white images. After finding and purchasing a refurbished Epson 1160 and a
set of MIS QVM inks, bad stuff happened and I never installed the inks.

Finally today, I got the printer up and running and the colour cartridge looks
just dandy but the black cartridge, after three cleaning cycles and two small
prints, there are still gaps in the print and in the test patterns.

Does this mean the cartridge is totally bad, or can it be rescued somehow?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

My 1160s have been very trouble free, Lara, and I haven't used the
QVM ink set, so the other 1160 users' experience might be more
relevant. But while you're waiting for it, it might be good to just
turn the printer off (with the on/off button on it - to park the
heads on their wet pad - rather than somewhere further upstream
toward the plug) until tomorrow. This is often recommended before
doing more than the three cleanings you've already done. And
sometimes that soaking is all that is needed. But it does sound as if
your inks might be getting too old to be convenient to use. I think
the MIS people are back from vacation now, and I'd call (not e-mail)
them about that.

Good luck.

Apparently this new "Better Together" promotion does include the
1280, Altaf. I went to the Apple Store, worked through an order for a
Mac to the printers section and saw:

>Epson Stylus Photo 1280 Inkjet Printer

after clicking on the 1280 for $399. The rebate seems to apply to the
2200 too now.
