MIS CFS with Eboni and colour prints

MIS CFS with Eboni and colour prints

2004-02-01 by Steve Kale

I hate to ask this here but I am about to buy an MIS CFS for my 2100 and I need to
check one thing. I was intending to order the Archival Colour Pigment CFS, not with
Universal Black but with Ebony. This is as a result of (a) I mostly print on matt paper
incl HPR and (b) the success people have had with Ebony BO and a spray on RC
papers. As I still print colour I am unfortunately not yet ready to consider the UT
2200 ink or the Ultratone B&W although I am tempted to order UT 2200 cartridges
and go through the swap process. (How easy is it to have two CFS and swap between
them?)

[FYI, this is starting to get very confusing. Just at MIS you will have several B&W inks
for the 2100/2200. MIS says that the Ultra-tone B&W inks don't work with Paul's
curves. They will then presumably add the UT 2200 which will...?]

My question: I am worried that I can't print colour on RC papers (eg Epson Premium
Semi-gloss) with the Eboni ink. I don't mind having to spray the image as I would do
this anyway. Has anyone who has dabbled with BO on RC with Ebony tried colour on
RC with Eboni? Does it work?

I guess I could always just throw in the Epson UC PK cartridge for colour RC but it
would be nice not to have to.

Thanks

Steve

Several people (Bowhaus among them) used UT1 inks in various configurations
in 2200 systems. I have a modified UT2 for it that I assume MIS will have
on its website soon. I have no idea how they are going to name the inks to
avoid further confusion.

UT Monochrome FS formula

2004-02-02 by Wendel White

Paul;

Any word on when MIS will be releasing the UT-FS formula inks for Cone/IP
users? I have been a bit concerned that this will not happen and I cannot
figure the delay. Am I wrong to assume it is simply a matter of making the
proper dilutions (which are already known) of the Eboni ink.

For the Epson 7000, I thought there was black, Magenta dilution, Cyan
Dilution and Yellow dilution (Light Magenta and Light Cyan are just
duplicates of the Magenta and Cyan positions) - what's so hard about making
this? I am especially puzzled as to why the inks are not available for bulk
purchase.

Can you give some insight into the delay? The MIS web site makes it clear
that the old FS inks are now considered inferior. What's left to figure out?

Wendel,

I have not heard anything. I think MIS is trying to re-do the entire
website, at least as it related to B&W (badly needed, I might add). So, it
may be that rather than write a new page for the UT-FS inks in the old
style, they are just incorporating it into the new system.

Eboni does not dilute well. The midtones are based on MIS 7600 PK and LK,
with C & M as toners for the neutral version(s).

I think it's just taking MIS longer than anticipated to come up with a
simpler website design.
