Hi Carl,

First off, yes, the new R800 is a very impressive printer. My first
print out of it was color and spot-on, an excellent profile, no
metamerism at all, and the new gloss optimizer works well. Huge
difference - the red and blue inks' effect on gamut. Lotsa greens in
the print too.

But I bought it for a B&W gig the next some months and so followed
the thread here. Just starting on it, I'm yet to get up to speed on
the entire workflow.

So, most obviously, an rgb scan of B&W film printed with yellow
hilites and bluish mid/lo-tones when printed color. Same results even
if converted to grayscale before printing. No grain aliasing of the
400 speed film/2700 ppi scan. Paper - Premium Glossy.

I can't find the Grayscale option. Just Color or Black. And very
curiously, according to the User's Guide (book), "select Color (for
color documents and black and white photographs) or Black (for black
text documents), while from the online Help, "When you select Black
or Grayscale colors are automatically converted to grayscale values.
If your document includes color, chose color. If you are printing
black text only or you want colors to print as varying shades of
gray, chose Black or Grayscale"." Contradictory????!!!!!

I'm Mac 9.1 and the USA software is v 1.56A while I see Epson's UK
site has v 1.5b. Does anyone know if that software is different in
this regard and if there's a reason I shouldn't download and use that?

BO printing removes the color casts. A quick loop look though I do
think I'm seeing a small amount of blue dots too. The dots more
obvious in BO, the 1.5 picoliter is just incredibly fine. Overall the
image doesn't appear to have as smooth tones as rgb which looks like
it may also be due to the same sharpening being too much for BO.

Not good enough yet, so I'll be working on this if you want any
particular tests or test prints.

Next - EEM.
