Starting Over. Printer, Paper and Ink Advice Needed.

Starting Over. Printer, Paper and Ink Advice Needed.

2004-03-06 by dwells8

My ol' 1160 is finally dead. I need to choose a new printer.

I also may need to choose a new inkset. (Current is mis/variable
tone.)

I'd like use a neutral tone bulk ink that will print on glossy paper.
(Also needs to print on mat paper.)

I'd like to find a decent heavyweight glossy paper or card stock to
be used as postcards.

I don't really need a wide printer. A standard width might be okay.
(Was there a standard width version of the 1160 that might be
easier to find.)

If I need to buy a 1280 or newer, I may as well go with a wide
format printer.

I haven't needed to make these kinds of desions for a while. I
don't know what is even available.

Any suggestions?

The 860 is the narrow carriage version of the 1160. They are still
available new on www.half.com (an ebay location) for $179.00

The 860 uses the same curves etc as the 1160 since it has the same
printhead. I have been using one with MIS-VM-Sepia and QTR2 for some
time.

I'd go for the 890 - a smalller 1280 version - it's a six ink printer that takes UT2 Inks and
has smaller dots in the highlights than the 860.

Go to the Epson site> Clearance Center. 890 Refurbs for $129.00 and free shipping.
