Replacing Piezotone with MIS FS

Replacing Piezotone with MIS FS

2004-03-06 by ragarecords

According to the MIS website, you can replace the Piezotone ink
with MIS FS. (appended below.) The price differential is very
compelling.
--Can I just pour in MIS FS on top of the 1/2" of piezotone ink
remaining in the CIS bottle?
--Have others done this?
--Are there reasons NOT to do this?

<<FS and FS Neutral for Cone's R9 Driver (Image Export BW by
R9)-The MIS FS inks will work with Cone's R9 driver. No special
workflow is required when used with this driver. It is a lower cost
apporach and the print results	are reportedly equal or better.
These FS inks are fully pigmented, with pure carbon pigment
and they are archival. The performace in cartridges and in
contiuous flow systems is identical. These inks do not cause
clogging problems, and they do not evaporate when the printer is
not being used. They are compatible with the Cone inks and can
be substituted one for one with out cleaning or flushing. >>

I do not recommend mixing MIS UT-FS inks with PiezoTone inks. The
bases/binders in which the pigments of these two inksets are suspended are
probably much different. You might have precipitation that would clog the
system. I would never mix inks that are not from a "family" of compatible
inks.

Hello folks,

I just had to jump in here with a related story. I have been toiling
with Piezotone BW ICC inkset for about a week now and finally ran out
of ink experimenting to get the thing right. Well, then I brought out
my MIS FSN inkset for the Epson driver only and used the PiezoBW ICC
PAPER profiles just like I was using the Piexotone inks and I am
getting much better results than with the genuine Piezotone inks.
Black only printing might be put on the back burner for a while now.
No additonal printing curves are needed, just work up the image on
the screen (proofing with the Piezo paper ICC profiles) and when the
image looks right---print with the print space set the same as the
paper profile used for proofing. This probably isn't supposed to
work, but it does!!!

Johnny Eades

Hello Don,

This was on the Epson 1280 that I've been experimenting all these
inks with. I'm surprised and pleased at the same time.

Re: Replacing Piezotone with MIS FS

Hi Paul,
Thanks for your reply...your answer is about the UT inks, but my
question was about whether anyone had trouble adding the
non-UT "Full Spectrum" inks (which the MIS website says is fully
compatible with Piezotone-- no flushing needed) to
almost-empty supply bottles with remaining Piezotone ink. MIS
seems to say you can, but I'm hoping someone on the list can
tell me they've done it with good results.
