Digital negs rivisited (and virus alert)

Digital negs rivisited (and virus alert)

2004-03-19 by Steven Karafyllakis

I tried the Pictorico Overhead transp. film in my 1280 a while back,
but wasn't too thrilled with the results; the film had obvious
(under a loupe) banding, where the same file on paper was completely
smooth and clean. So I'm wondering if anyone has come up with a
better alternative? I seem to remember mention of some kind of
synthetic paper/backlight film, has any one had any success with
that?

Thanks,

Steve Karafyllakis

BTW: if anyone gets an e-mail w/ attachment from the above web-site
URL, you should know 2 things: 1) the attachment is probably a
virus, Nemsky or mydoom, or some such. 2)I have nothing to do with
it, my site is being "spoofed", and I'm getting these things myself,
so please don't blame me!

Don Burkholder now recommends Pictorico High Gloss White Film (at least for the 2200). I
am using it and find it is better than the OHP material. Unfortunately it is expensive. Be
sure to use photo-black vice matte-black ink on the 2200.

I have never experienced the banding you are getting with either the OHP or white film
paper, but I don't have a 1280.

My thanks to Doug and Casper for this info; I'll probably start with
the Pictorico first, if it works well I'll report back

PermaJet and Oriental both have the same product, but I'm not sure they are
any cheaper. It may not transmit UV for the processes that expose with UV
light.

You are right Paul, the Pictorico White Film blocks UV and is unsuitable for platinum prints.
Although, it works great for silver-gelitan printing.
