QuadTone RIP - Non-printing areas

QuadTone RIP - Non-printing areas

2004-03-22 by kubeatsou

I just downloaded and installed QuadToneRIP and the 2200 profiles. Set-up went smooth
and after a restart I was able to sucessfully print. Except that there are areas of the print
where no ink is being laid down, These are not evenly spaced horizontal lines or anything
that would be consistent with hardware/nozzle problems. They are just areas of no ink
and are isolated to areas of heavy black density within the image.

No similar issues with the Epson driver.

Anyone run into this before?

QTR 2.0 beta 9
OS 10.3.2
Epson 2200

Thanks

Bruce McKinney

Doesn't sounds at all familiar but I'm not positive I understand what's
happening. Dark parts of the print come out without ANY ink? Have
you changed the ink carts lately? Switched types of ink? Run cleaning carts?
Might you have lots of air in the lines?

Roy, if you can imagine a portrait where some of the darkest areas between strands of hair
(relatively thin areas but still quite noticeable) are receiving no ink whatsoever. The areas
clearly correspond to the deep shadow areas when compared to a normal Epson driver
print.

Re: cartridges and cleaning cycles...all carts are at least half full and the 2200 shows no
sign of malfunction when printing the identical file using the Epson driver.

I would be happy to post a file to my website for review if that would help.

Are you sure it's not a nozzle problem? I had the exact same thing
happen to me once, although a print from the Epson driver would look
reasonably good. A nozzle check revealed a problem with the black
nozzle. They lay down ink very differently, so problems in one place can
be unnoticable in the other

Daniel, I would tend to think it's not a nozzel issue based on the following: 1) the Epson
driver prints are perfect (except of course for color shifts which is why I'm trying QT
anyway). It's not a situation where one is not "quite as bad" as the other. 2) perhaps more
telling is that the QT print issue is repeatable. The exact same areas are effected on
multiple prints, even at different print sizes (100% and 50% scaling for example).

Having a bad nozzle will produce that color shift you mentioned. Please do a nozzle check.
