Steve, I have the bigger version Microtek 1800 and I love it, it's scan
depth is much greater than other scanners I have tried, very important for
RVP trannies and dense negs.

The only problem that I encountered was that I could not get sharp scans
with the glassless film holders because the heat from the lamp caused the
film to swell during scanning. (this is only a problem for long exposure
scans, like 1800ppi at 48bit RGB) I use the glass tray and that solved
everything except newton rings. I use cardboard cut-outs to lift the film
off the glass slightly and now I am getting excellent scans without any
sharpening.

Please note that if you are Mac Panther, you have to check the Microtek
website for the specifics of installation or else it will not work. You
will have to manually delete the scsi drivers from your library. See the
website here: http://www.support.microtek.com/panther.phtml

In my experience, the Microtek driver works twice as fast as Vuescan, so I
recommend using the Microtek software.

good luck
