UT "Yellow" Position

UT "Yellow" Position

2004-05-26 by Mr_Misty_44

Has anyone had problems with the "Yellow" or lightest gray in the UT
set clogging. I've been having quite a problem with this one ink. I
get good nozzle checks and then, half way through a print I can see
the light gray fail somewhat. When I do another check the yellow has
broken lines. I do a cleaning or two and then I might have a good
check again. I can have a few prints and then again, the yellow clogs.
Is it the head or the ink? I'm using QTR with a 7500. I've seen some
posts lately about the possible settling of pigment

John:

I am currently battling the same problem except that my problem is so severe that the
yellow never functions - currently about 10% of the yellow nozzles work and the pattern is
consistent suggesting it isn't bubbles. I have already tried the windex on the pad trick and
next up is windex in the input stem (after removing the yellow UT cartridge), all this on a
2200.

Odd that the most dilute ink would be the one to clog - unfortunately I clearly don't have a
solution for you but if either of us does, hopefully he will contact the other.

George

I've had exactly the same problem with my 1280, using first the VM
and then the original UT inks.

After I was away from home for a week, my yellow head clogged. On
the bottom jagged line of the test pattern, the first seven nozzles
print, the next four don't, and the last one sometimes prints and
sometimes doesn't. I've tried everything--Windex, Fantastik, warm
water flush, and MIS's cleaning fluid and cleaning carts.

Fortunately, there is an authorized Epson repair facility in the
Seattle area (Computronics in Kirkland, WA). They say that when it
gets this bad, they have a 30% chance of success cleaning the print
head. Otherwise, it's a new print head for about $144 (both parts
and labor). This includes a general checkout of the entire printer.

Hi:

One reason why I went with the MIS GP inks is that they are epson ink
compatible. I keep a set of epson carts, if I'm not going to use the
printer for a while (and don't want to keep an outprint program
going), I put in the EP carts, run several cleaning cycles with
checks, and then turn the printer off. I had my heads clogg on a CF,
so I learned the hard way. BTW I also keep a cleaning cart. and run
it every several months.

The only clogg I had with the CF was after a 3 month nonuse of the
printer due to illiness in the family. But then realized that filling
carts for me is the answer as I just don't print enough to keep a CF
happy.
