sundance septone

2004-08-04 by irksom4000

Hi folks.I'm new to this group.
I just receintly got a sp4000. Now I'm considering turning my 2200
into a greyscale printer by installing the sundance septone system.
Has anyone here had experience with this system? If so do you have
some opinions and experience you would like to share?
regards
Tom

Last summer I received several sample Septone prints directly from
Sundance people. I put one of them on my window sill as part of an
ongoing test with various ink/paper combinations. The Septone print
began fading and color shifting at 125 days and increased over time.
My conclusion is that the black ink contains some dye. Unless they
have changed their ink, this appears not to be a good archival
solution.

Here's a scan of the test strip. The dark strip down the middle was
covered with a piece of matt board:

I tried the cartridges. They don't work. You will never get a good
nozzle check and you will use up all of your expensive ink trying.
Switched to CIS. I won't go into details here but it was a nightmare
dealing with BW Guys and their Septone system. They have the
philosophy that the customer is always wrong.
