[Digital BW] 1270, 1200 or 1160 and MIS VM ink?

The 1280 is probably the best of the bunch. I can measure the differences,
but most do not see any differences in normal viewing circumstances. Some
do see the 1160 dots on very close examination. The 1280, on the other hand
is the smoothest I've measured.

I use the 1160 and find it so good I have no incentive to buy a new printer.
Part of my like for the 4-inker is that it's that much easier to mix new
brews for. However, even if I was not into mixing inks, I find the quality
so good I have no interest in switching. The 1160 is a terrific machine, in
my view.

I would see the difference then. I am very picky and can easily see the
dots on my color 1160. Would your 1280 curves work on the 1270 as well?
If not, are you going to release 1270 curves? I do not have a 1280, but
a 1270. I am curious as to what most are using with these inks, besides
you. Four or six inks?

Thanks

Because quads "partition" the inks -- putting only the light ink(s) into the
highlights -- the visibility of dots is far less on a 4-ink printer when it
uses partitioned quads than when it uses color inks. If you have a
preference for the 1160, it might be worth seeing a sample.

No, the 1270 needs its own curves.

>If not, are you going to release 1270 curves?

The 1270 curves are in draft form, with the PC set getting useable. I plan
on completing both sets, as there does seem to be demand for them.

I don't know.

Murray,

If you go to the "Polls" section of the group homepage you will find
two running polls. One for printers and one for ink sets. With about
130 responses the most used ink set is Piezo and the 1160 leads the
printers. If you go through the printer data you can get a feel for
how many are on quad and hex printers.

I saw some side-by-side comparison of a 3000 and a 1200 I felt that
with magnification the dot pattern was definitely less noticeable
with the 1200 than the 3000. At normal viewing distances the
difference was not noticeable on matte papers but I could faintly see
it on glossy paper.

1160 4 color printers are Sharper, 6 color printers are smoother, but
just a TINY little bit.

1160's are great with MIS inks and Paul's curves.
