Generations Black in a 1280; solvents?

Generations Black in a 1280; solvents?

2004-08-07 by p5198

I'm having a problem with my color printing. The 1160 I run for B&W
work uses a Nomorecarts(!) CFS and MIS VM inks, and the combo has
functioned perfectly for well over two years now. It's the blacks in
my 1280 colour machine (Win2K SP3) that give trouble. A new batch of
Generations 4 inks loaded into what Jerry Olsen used to call the
"Cadillac" of CFS devices, the one sold by Inkjet Goodies, "dusts" the
black onto the white surround if the print's low values touch the edge
of the print area. Apparently the solvent in the new batch of black
ink does not dry the inks fast enough to synch with the 1280 heads'
rate of travel. It's a real PITA to try for an exchange from this
location in Canada (SShore of Nova Scotia), but I can't help but
wonder if some of you alchemists with experience in mixing inks can
suggest a solvent I might add or technique that might work here. I
hate to discard the expensive (and efficient) CFS, but absent a remedy
I'll have to go to MIS for a batch of their colour inks and a CFS.

Bob:

Are you sure that you have enough air in the K cart? I know when I
don't have enough in my 1280 with MIS CFS I end up with splatters
outside the intended area. But pulling the feed line out of the ink
and running a purge pattern until the feed line fills up with air has
always solved that for me. It's possible to just detach the feel line
from the cart to empty it, but mine are so tight that it's easier just
to waste a bit of ink.

BTW, that tip orginally came from Bob Zeiss at MIS.

Oh, Jerry got me using the Gen4 K. Really liked it but I switched to
Eboni now.
