Rendering intent affects primarily the most saturated colors, so if you're
starting with a grayscale image, it doesn't matter. There's one obscure
exception: if your B&W image is already in RGB mode, and you use Absolute
Colorimetric to convert to a different RGB color space with a different
white point, it will give you unequal R, G and B values in an effort to
preserve the white point. But for photos, you normally only deal with
Relative Colorimetric or Perceptual anyway.
Black Point Compensation only matters if the conversion involves a device
color space where the value 0,0,0 doesn't represent a theoretical perfect
black. When converting between two abstract color spaces, this setting has
no effect.
