I am trying to install QTR on a PC running win2K. Win2K seems NOT to be the problem. The problem is that I do not have an ethernet card or a network. Files submited to the RIP produce an error message to the effect that the network location cannot be found. Has anyone found a workaround. BTW running the QTR while connected via dial-up does not work for me. In fact, the network connection is disrupted by submitting a file to the RIP!

After removing an older W-QTR beta + Quad2200 and installing the latest W-QTR beta + Quad9600 + QTRgui 0.4 a problem appears that I can't fix. "Unable to write raster data to driver" error from I guess ImagetoRaster appears. Probably related to the size of the print I think. Ernst

Ernst, I downloaded the Windows QTR beta 3 for the 9600 and there was a small typo in the print-9600.bat. The line: set CURVE1=UC-EEnhMatte-warm-1set CURVE2=UC-EEnhMatte-coolSe-1 needs to be... set CURVE1=UC-EEnhMatte-warm-1 set CURVE2=UC-EEnhMatte-coolSe-1 Once I separated these two lines, I had no further problems except for some vertical banding that I am trying to get rid of. Hope this helps. Greg --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, Ernst Dinkla <E.Dinkla@c...> wrote:

W-QTR beta3, 9600, QTRgui, XP pro. A friend with the same setup is printing after I advised him how to set it up :-) Wonder whether the 2200 setup with QTRgui that I had installed before left something in registry or whereever. Ernst

Now I changed the name to something odd, apply button and then changed it back again to Quad9600, apply button and now it works again. Can't believe it that it was just that. Ernst

Ernst, I am curious to know if you get banding with your 9600. Mine shows up in clear skies. (Not so much in detailed areas) I suspect it has to do with the settings informing the printer to print bidirectional instead of unidirectional. I am waiting to hear a reply from Roy on that. I was just curious to see if you had a similar problem. Greg

This error also occurs if the printer share name is not correct. With version 0.4 of QTRgui, the name could not have a space in it. This is fixed, download a newer version from www.sbillard.org\Shareware\QTRgui.htm. -Stephen www.sbillard.org/Stephen

None of these programs put things in the registry. QTRgui uses an INI file, delete it and things will start from scratch. -Stephen www.sbillard.org/Stephen

Today I actually linearised the custom Wasatch SoftRip / 9000 UT VM combination again so I can continue B&W printing that way. The friend who got it running today is very satisfied with the 9600 QTR driver. Finer detail than with his 9000 UT VM and Paul's curves. Qimage preprocessing too. He will compare the 9600 results with the 9000 driven by QTR later on but my guess is that the 9000 will be sold. Will ask about any banding. His fee is on its way to Roy. Ernst

Ernst, Would you sell your Epson 9000 just because of sharpness difference? I compared the tests on: http://harrington.com/dotscans/dotsdots.html and I couldn't se the difference between Epson 7500/9000 and Epson 7600. This week I am going to pick up a very little used Epson 9000. It shall cost me 7500 swedish kronas ( $1000 ), including my petrol costs. I want to use it for quadtone printing. I am worrying now, am I doing something wrong? Regards, Kemal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ernst Dinkla wrote:

But be careful with the ink change that no dye/UT contamination happens. First of all it isn't my 9000 and my 9600. I am happy with my 9000 loaded with UT VM and the way I can drive it now with the Wasatch SoftRIP and I'm expecting even better results with Qimage + QTR. My customers love the results so far. I have no 9600 either and do not intend to buy one, instead I have bought a secondhand 10000 for color. My friend has far more work and used to print with three 9000's. He now has two 9600's + one 9000 converted to UT VM. The last was only used with Paul's curves from PhotoShop and not yet with QTR + Qimage so he hasn't compared output of the 9600 with the same driver as he used on the 9600. It could well be that the 9000 performs as good or better with QTR but then he has two printers for that kind of work while the need for B&W doesn't require more than one. It isn't clear yet what he will do but he still has the two other 9000's with color inks that aren't used often either. More of a luxury problem. So a completely different situation to mine or yours and not yet based on a checked quality difference either. The price you're paying is nice if I compare it to a 9000 sold here not long ago. 2000 Euro, but that one had one of my CIS systems on it. Ernst

Ernst, Thank you very much for your help, I am not worrying anymore. My neighbors are forewarned and some of them, who are strong enough, shall help me to haul this thing into my basement. To be continued. Kemal ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ernst Dinkla wrote:
