PhotoRag Question

PhotoRag Question

2004-10-02 by Bernie Ess

First of all, maybe I make a mistake but I dont find the "archive
search" to be of any help, I never seem to find that much.
i.e. When I type in "Hahnemuhle photorag" or "photorag" simply, there
are hardly any postings displayed, however I think I remember having
read quite a bit of postings about that topic.

So, I just started to explore that paper - the light version (180g?)
and the 308g version:

1. I read in several places that one has to brush the surface in order
to avoid flaking or however this is called - I had nozzle problems
when printing without doing anything on the surface. What brush to
use? How strong/ soft?

2. How to protect the surface after printing? The prints seem to be
extremely sensitive to scratches. Can I apply premier art shield?

If someone can direct me to a place where this is covered, this is
fine of course.

Thanks in advance,

Bernhard

Hi Bernhard,

> First of all, maybe I make a mistake but I dont find the "archive

After the first search, you should use the "Next" button,
repeatedly, to search through the next bunch of messages.
In this case, I think you can drop the Hahnemuhle, just search on
Photorag.

> What brush to use? How strong/ soft?

I don't use a brush but a clean and old piece of cloth (like a small
towel) to wipe the surface off. After that, I blow cold air over it
with a strong hair dryer.
Works for me, I never have flaking problems (except in my hair).
You must use an OLD piece of cloth that has been washed a lot of
times so that all loose fibers has been washed out (no use in
replacing paper flakes by textile fibers, is there?).

Greetings.

Igor, thanks for your answer - but concerning "help" all I get on
"photorag" is 3 or 4 messages - this is impossible - no "next"
messages there...

Can you try how much you get?

Thanks, Bernhard

The next button is at the top or bottom of the list at the far right
of this line:

Searched Messages 49475-49326 of 49475 | Previous | Next

click it once and it won't show any messages, click again and there
will be 2. The search function seems to only search one page of 30
messages at a time. So you need to keep hitting next to go through them.

As for brushes I use a soft 6 in dusting brush, which can be picked up
at art stores or drafting supply stores.

Wow - thanks, now I found it - strange I could swear before it was
different, search hits were just listed normally.

Thanks also for the brushes answer. I will just experiment with it.
