Julian,

You asked whether I was planning on curves for Photorag.

I really don't have a road map, nor am I familiar with Photorag. Are there
equivalents by various sellers? (I have several Hahnemuhle papers.)

If there is a popular paper and someone sends me a couple of sheets, I'll
see what I can do.

I was originally thinking of profiles as in the Transfer Function. I'm now
thinking that the TF, in addition to it being a crude tool, might run into
the problem of printer driver differences. So, a Photoshop curve to be
applied before the RGB mode change and VM control curve (or an overlay on
the RGB part of the main curve) might be a superior method. This should be
independent of printer and platform.

Any ideas or thoughts on this are most welcome. I sense that the main draw
of Piezo that the MIS VM system lacks is profiles. I am still hoping that
the user base gets to the point where these are made and made available by
others.

like I said, the linux approach! The profiles are the main draw of piezo for
me. I also know the system very well so I am secure in it. Up until last
week, I pressed print and knew exactly what i got. When I'm out of inks I'll
get one 1160 set up with FS and one with your inks and start to play.

Paul, I don't remember If I mentioned it, but there are a LOT of papers
that print extremely well with your curves. It doesn't seem to matter if
it is Aspen, Photo Matte, Museo, Epson EAM, Epson Watercolor or Eclipse.
The prints are extremely close to each other. The only tweak a person
would have to make is a slight lightness or darkness adjustment in the
Levels gamma box, and even that would be fairly small.

Jerry,
did you ever print with the "wrong" profile through the piezo driver
by chance. I did it several times , results were often very very
close to the "right" profile. Whatever you may think about it....

Hi Bernd,

Yes, I frequently did that. Paul's curves do indeed work for a wide
variety of papers. I think I have solved most of the problems I've had
while learning the quad process. Everything is going quite smoothly, at
least for the minute.
