QTR CURVES - Can't load them

QTR CURVES - Can't load them

2004-10-18 by john dean

I've been messing around for two nights trying to load some of the pre-existing curves on
Roy's site to my 1200 driver in Panther OSX. I've followed these directions a million times
and when I try to load a curve it always says my printer doesn't exist. I'm using Piezzotone
and just want to use some kind of curve to reduce the hot highlights I am getting on my
test prints. I can't seem to load any curve at all with this set up. Are there some other
directions I should be following. This shouldn't be so damn difficult just to load a curve.

Should I make a hand made curve by printing out a greyscale in Photoshop and just
loading a contrast curve to each file in PS. That seems crude. I don't know what I'm doing.

In general my output is fine without loaded curves except the extreme high values which
are too bright. Is using the feature in QTR for making "expert" presets by reducing
"brightness" or "contrast" a reasonable way of controlling the high-end of the scale......

I did try those expert settings to control contrast and brightness and it apparently worked
quite nicely and interfaced will with OSX as if a pre-set curve was created.

Hi John,

I don't understand what you are trying to do. I don't have any curves
for the 1200 printer. Which version are you using 2.0 or 2.1? And
what curves do you want to use?

Re: QTR CURVES on the 1200

Roy,

Thanks for the response. I am using the QTR with a 1200 and Piezzo Carbon Sepia straight
with no color mixes.
I realize now that your 1270 etc curves for Mis inks won't load on this driver for this 1200
printer. The only reason I wanted to use QTR on this printer is to work out of OSX. Tonight
I ended up using OS9 with no ICC Profile or rip and finished with excellent tonal results,
strangely enough by just using Gamma 1.8 as a profile in the standard Epson 1200 driver.
So that is fine with me for now.

What I will need help with next week mostly likely is setting up QTR with the 7000 and a
similar straight Cone inkset with no color mixes. I assume I will need to contact someone
to linearize this printer for that purpose since I don't have measurement equipment.
