Photokit Sharpener Pro

Photokit Sharpener Pro

Has anyone noticed that this product does a fantastic job with (colour) film scans but an
absolutely awful job with digital camera images? I have (or rather decided not to) used it
with images from both simple 4 mp digicams and a Phase One back. Whenever I try to use
it with the digital camera(s)/back I get horrible noise like results.

I should add that this is with the Capture Sharpener element of the
programme - I do not use the Creative Sharpener tools.

There is an updated version just out that should address those issues. I
find that the 20d does a great job with digital mid res sharpen set to
20-30% and then 10-25% of super sharpen. This can leave room for the final
out put sharpen and maybe a haze cutter filter. I find that if the haze
filter is applied correctly that you can get by fablulously with less
sharpening. ( digital cameras). And more appearance of surface depth and
shape contour. Might be worth checking out the new version...

I would use them in the capture mode especially if your scanning negative
film. I like to just get the edges started use a tiny bit of the super
sharpener and then save the remaining 30-40% for the final sharpen at
output size and resolution. If you know that you need to upsample I would do
that before running capture sharpen. This file might not be able to be
repurposed as easily for smaller prints.

Is that with the new (er August) release or did it work with the old one?
Whenever I do ANY Capture Sharpen with a Dig setting I get heavy artifacts
in skin tones etc (even when sharpening is turned off in Capture One's
processing). I have not tested the new release yet.
