OT 2100 odd behaviour

OT 2100 odd behaviour

2004-12-10 by Richard Smallfield

Hi,
first, as an aside, Roy, thanks so much for this QTR software that has saved my bacon. I live on an invalid benefit, and am in debt to VISA for all my ink and paper ... but will pay for QTR as soon as finances permit.

I'm getting perfect tones from QTR and was getting very accurate colour on EEM ... then I put in the glossy K cart, printed a colour portrait and .... it was totally blue! Why, why, why, when Matte K on EEM was so damned good?

Any help?

thanks,
Rich

Do you mean that you printed a full colour image? QTR only supports BW
images. Or do you mean that you printed a grayscale image saved as RGB?
Which profile and what paper did you use?

I'd expect printing with the glossy K would give you less than ideal
results unless you have a profile specifically designed for it. It's
different in tone from the matte K, and has much weaker DMAX on matte
papers.

If you send me some details I'll see if I can make a profile for your
ink and paper comination.

Hi Daniel,
thanks for replying.

Sorry to be OT. It was a colour photo taken by a friend - a nice colour portrait. I was using the Epson driver, not QTR. It was probably in sRGB as it was only a Sony Cybershot camera.

It's ironic that the hardware is so good, but the Epson software is so bad.

Thanks very much - I'll do so in future if I need to.

Ah, so we're talking about the Epson driver misbehaving when printing
color images :) I thought you were using QTR...

You should try the latest Epson profiles for the 2100. They're really
good. I even get very accurate colors with the MIS 7600 Ultrachrome
compatible inkset when I use these profiles.

Contact me off list if you continue to have problems. Could be that
you're getting double profiling somehow.
