I am not sure? I had several earlier versions of QTR installed over the last few weeks but deleted all the folders that looked like QTR folders. I would swear that is where the install put it. I will trash and try again.

I am playing catch-up on this inkjet B&W printing and found QTR but haven't gotten my profiles, inks and workflow down yet, so I have been bouncing aroind a lot.

Why is your installation in ...\QuadTonePCbeta3 folder?

  http://www.harrington.com/QTRPC/QuadToneRIPSetup_2.1c.exe should
install to C:\Program Files\QuadToneRIP folder by default. And QTRgui
should be installed to the ...\QuadToneRIP\bin folder automatically.

For what it's worth, my download and install of QTR this evening failed to
launch when I clicked print.
Waited awhile for this version, as I'm not as savvy as some of you out
there- guess I'll have to wait some more, until this gets sorted out.

Looking forward to using QTR- Roy

I think I know where all this confusion is coming from. Windows has
quite a few places where "left-over" installation info from old
versions is popping up.

Here are three things that should insure a consistent version:

1) Delete all the QTR-like folders from Program Files. This is especially
important if you've tried to save some old versions by renaming.

2) Delete the shortcuts in the Start Menu, there's one at the "top" level
and one under a QuadToneRIP subfolder. The QTRgui install changed
where the shortcuts went at some version so its likely you have both and
they may point to different places.

3) Now install 2.1c. IMPORTANT: When you get to the page that
shows the location for the install, make SURE it says:
C:\Program Files\QuadToneRIP or whatever drive and system folder
is appropriate for your system. If you had a different folder at some
prior time this may be incorrect, just browse or edit the path.

You may need to uninstall both QTR and GUI then clean the registry base, searching for "QTR" and stroke off all the corresponding keys but be careful of what you are doing, don't erase something else.

  Michael,

Yeah - one of the log files had a message that it could not load the
ppd file. The file was there but maybe corrupted. So I blew away
c:\program files\quadtonerip and reinstalled the old version. Now
that works! I'll try reinstalling QTRGui tomorrow. Enough for one
  night!

  Thanks for your help!

For some reason things apparently don't always automatically install to the
QuadTone RIP folder within QTR. When I installed on an XP Home Version
computer QuadToneRIP was created as an entirely separate folder in
C:\Program Files and I had to manually copy things from it to the
QuadToneRIP folder in QTR to get it to work. The QuadTone RIP folder was in
QTR but the folders in it were empty after the initial intallation (or maybe
just some folders were empty, I forget, it's been a while).

If you uninstall QTRgui, it will uninstall the registry key it produces. If
you want to check it look for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sympathetic
Software\QTRgui\. The Key name is ProgramFilePath.

You should definitely run the uninstall for QTR and/or QTRgui. Then find any
folders that have QuadToneRIP files in them and delete the folders. (The old
QTR install created the folders in multiple places.) Finally you should find
any shortcuts to QTRgui and delete them.

[Digital BW] Re: QTR Anguish!!

Stephen,

I have completely uninstalled QuadToneRIP & QTRGui. I went into the
registry and deleted any remaining keys that refer to QuadToneRIP. I
deleted the QuadToneRip folder. After a reboot, I installed the new
version. I still cannot print. Tried a reboot, and cannot print. In
debug mode, the DOS window flashed by but nothing happens. No log
files are created - just the qtrguilog.txt file. The only way to
print is to take your earlier suggestion of renaming the
QTRguiLog.txt file to a bat file and running that. Then it prints
just fine and the log files are created. Very strange. Since I used
to print from QTRgui just fine, and now even an older version will
not work, I'm thinking it's some kind of security update on my PC.
AT least I can print now!

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
