Digital BW, The Print

Hey folks, im a new member. thank you very much.

I have been using Epson Professional Glossy paper for black 
and white work via Image Print on a Epson 2200 and I find that it, 
so far, is the closest thing I 've found to the look of a traditional, 
air dried black and white print. It has a smooth, low sheen that 
looks pretty near a traditional air dried....not to bad in the 
bronzing dept.either.

Plus, it benefits from the better black in photo black ink. Ok, it's 
pretty cool, Im in the mood to experiment a bit so...

are their any other papers out there that are similar in having that 
air dried print feel?

And, in terms of these RC ish papers (glossy inkjet papers) what 
is the life expectancy under glass or out of the air in an acid free 
box? Anyone have any source for good info on this? I can' t seem  
to find it on the Wilhelm site...maybe someone has a link??

All the other low gloss or semi gloss papers ive seen have a bit 
of a stipple

I too loved this paper for the exact same reason - where are you finding it
now it's discontinued?

(worked great for colour too)

I have never used a modern FB paper (not since 20 years ago when I
first learned b/w printing anyway).. but isn't FB paper not resin
coated? So I am just wondering how could that be similar in terms of
feel. (I actaully really wanted to know because I have been using
matte papers (EEM, Moab, FAHP) for my b/w customers (weddings/
portraits) and of course all of them are used to the RC type papers
coming from the lab.)

May be I should switch to PK.. 

Anyway, if you look at Wilhelm site, you should be able to find the
life expectancy of these RC papers under 2200/4000/7600/R800 type
printers.. (with UC ink)

Oh no, please don't tell me that!!!! I'm just finishing up a huge lot that i 
purchased some time ago....damnitt. What is on their mind those folks at 
Epson...i am truly bummed and disgusted if that is true.

Not exactly the same as an air dried print but have you tried Epson 
semi-matte which uses Photo Black ink?  I really like it as it has 
decent blacks and little bronzing...  I was getting bored w/ the 
matte paper look. Using QTR w/ Ismooth pearl profile makes a very 
neutral print, and add 2 coats of print shield for bronzing...

I have some Ep Pro glossy so I'm going to try it ...

It is a terrific paper. It's a shame Epson discontinued it. I have a
couple rolls of the paper left and was going to sell one on ebay. If
you are interested, please contact me off list. It is an unopened
22"x65' roll of Glossy Paper Photo Weight (aka Professional Glossy
Paper in 13x19 size). I cut it down to sizes that suit me and have
found one roll to last quite a while.
