Epson ink vs. clones

Epson ink vs. clones

2005-01-11 by José Miguel Ferreira

Hi all,

Epson carts are pretty expensive. Did anyone try other manufacturers like
Keymax (http://www.keymax.co.uk <http://www.keymax.co.uk/> ) ? Are they
fully compatible? What about quality? Would I notice a difference?

Thanks!

José

Hi Jose

Most people on this list not using Epson (probaly a lot) use either
the Cone Piezotone inks (B&W) or the MIS UC class B&W and color
inks. MIS has a long track record supplying pigments that are
proving to be as good and sometimes better than Epson's, and if you
buy refillable carts, a chip resetter and bulk bottles, the
difference in price is quite large, almost certainly worth shipping
to Europe and UK.
URL is: http://www.inksupply.com take a look around, if the math
works for you, I think you'll find their products first rate

Thanks Steve,

I thought about MIS (B&W) inks and expect to give them a try in the future,
but before that commitment I must finish printing some work already started
with Epson UC. B&W and colour. That's why I'm looking for "Epson clones" for
the moment. I saw on the MIS website Chinese carts for the 2100/2200 for
5$... That's not much... They say these carts are as good as Epson
originals. Any experience with third party carts out there?

Thanks,
José

Jose-

There will be differences. Even inks that are marketed as "virtual
replacements" are not identical. However, how much this difference matters is difficult
to say. If you are using custom printing profiles for a given printer, ink set
and paper, it may matter a great deal.

Well, I guess I am.
I'm using QTR with a mix of curves specific to the ink and paper I use, but
these curves are the ones provided with the installation.
These curves seem to be very "flexible", I guess linearization is the
word...
I print by portfolios, or projects if you like, and I like these to share
the same "vibe", particularly colour.
If the colour would change with "identical" third-party inks, then I guess
I'll finish what I started with the same ink set.

Thank you for your help.
