Banding Problem when Printing with Ultra Tone FS Inksets on the 2000P

Banding Problem when Printing with Ultra Tone FS Inksets on the 2000P

2005-01-22 by brad1gold

I have recently downloaded Paul Roark's curves and ordered the
prescribed ink-sets and paper types from MIS. In my old 2000p, I
have loaded the UTFS-T015-K Ebony Black cartridge and the 5 shade
UTFS-T016 cartridge. With MIS Premier Hot Press Fine Art Paper
loaded into the 2000p, I have attempted to follow your workflow
instructions in your "ULTRA TONE FS("UT-FS") INKSETS FOR THE 2000P
INFORMATION AND SETTINGS (11-20-04).

With all of that done, The results I am getting all have small white
banding lines going horizontally through the image, except when I
print on Epson Enhanced Matte. With that paper I have received some
nice results, however as you have pointed out, the paper is not
archival. Surely I am doing something wrong in terms of the my
efforts to print on MIS Premier Hot Press Fine Art Paper and Legion
Somerset Photo Enhanced Paper with a Velvet Finish. With these two
papers, I have used the Watercolor setting in the Epson Print Driver.

Is there any thing that can be recommended to help me eliminate this
banding? Below, I have listed all the settings I have used in both
CS and the Epson Driver. I am thinking that just one of these items
incorrectly setup could throw everything off, but I do not seem to
know which one.

Running Photoshop CS, I went to Edit, Color Settings and
established the following settings:

- COLOR SETTINGS: (Custom)

- Advanced Mode Checked

- WORKING SPACES: RGB: Adobe RGB (1998), CMYK: Photoshop 5
Default CMYK, Gray: Gray Gamma 2.2, Spot: Dot Gain 20%

- COLOR MANAGEMENT POLICIES_RGB Off, CMYK Off, Gray Off.

- PROFILE MIS-MATCHES: Ask when opening checked

- CONVERSION OPTIONS: Engine: Adobe (ACE), Intent: Relative
Colormetric selected, Use Black Point Compensation checked, Use
Dither (8 Bit Channel Images) checked.

-          ADVANCED CONTROLS: De-saturate monitor colors by 20%;
unchecked, Blend RGB colors using Gamma 2.2: unchecked.

In the Epson Driver Settings, I have set it up as follows:

- "COLOR MANAGEMENT is selected rather than "Output".

- SOURCE SPACE: Document: Untagged Gray selected.

- PRINT SPACE: Profile: Working Gray-Gray Gramma 2.2

- INTENT: Relative Colormetric

- USE BLACK POINT COMPENSATION: Selected

- 2000P PRINTER PROPERTIES

- INK: Color: Selected

- MODE: Custom: Selected

- In the "ADVANCED MENU": INK: Color:Selected

- PRINT QUALITY: Photo Selected, High Speed Unselected

- COLOR MANAGEMENT: No Color Adjustment Selected

Usually banding is due to a nozzle problem or alignment. So, be sure those
2 things are right on. I'm wondering if the thickness of the paper is a
factor since EEM prints OK.
