Purchase-Ship 2100 to USA

Purchase-Ship 2100 to USA

2005-02-16 by jsdriggers

Has anyone in the US tried purchasing a 2100 in Britain and having it
shipped to the US? I know I would likley not get any EPSON USA
warrenty support. Any other issues? Would I be exempt from VAT? US
Customs fees would be how much? Any recommend UK sellers? Is the
2100 110-220 volt / 50-60 cycle like the 2200 here is?

Thx

I've never seen a 2100, but I did have a 1290 in the U.S. for a while.
Because of the different voltages and frequency of the current, it needed a
converter. That converter got very hot. I would think that indicates a
real waste of electricity.

John -

UK versions are 240v 50 hertz so you would need a transformer or other
voltage converter. AFAIK there's no voltage adjustment switch on the printer.

Shipping costs for a big heavy box like that would be significant but you
would save the VAT which at 17.5% of the average price of 380GBP or so
would be about 60 GBP.

amazon.co.uk list them at as good a price as anywhere.

Regards
Richard

The 2100 is 220-240 volts 50-60 Hz. Why on earth would you want to buy
anything electronic in the UK vs the US? Invariably you will pay
significantly more.

Thanks Paul. The 2200 sold here (in the US) is multivoltage, so I am hoping one of the
British list members with a 2100 can look on the back of their printer and tell me if the
2100 is also multivoltage. You can't tell from the epson tech specs on their site. I agree
that a transformer is not a good solution, hence my question. After a few months in the
US, the printer and I hope to go to AU.

I think--but don't know for sure, that the 1280/90 are single voltage printers.

(and thanks to B Ellis for the Rbt White recommendation)

Our Australian market 2100 is 220-240V, so you'll be out of luck in the
US. However, a properly rated autotransformer shouldn't get hot and
bothered - it'll need to be bigger than you think, because the power
supplies in this sort of kit take high peak currents.

My 2100 220-240 volts 50-60 hz. I would much rather have a 2200 because the
driver is better - and they are cheaper.

Thanks!! I was after the gray optimizer set-up and cards, which you
can't get here in the US with the 2200. Any comments? It looks
like the 2100 is NOT multivoltage and I don't want to use a
transformer so it looks like I'm outa' luck unless:

Anyone with a 2100 (maybe a broken one) who wants to sell the manual,
the cd with the drivers and the gray optimazaiton cards? If so
contact me off list at jsdriggers@...

The gray optimizer is a waste of space - forget about it. The drivers you
could download from Epson UK but again the 2200 driver is better.
