Is anyone using larger than 1440x720 dpi for mono prints on the 9600 with qtr? It certainly is slow even at this resolution. But if 2880 did make a difference I might just try it ( at night while I sleep). John

Is this a possibility? I've just been accepted for a solo exhibition and I am needing a high quality BW printing option. I've considered the 2200 with QTR, as I can just utilize the epson carts and print color when needed. Unfortunately, I rarely print larger than 6x9 and commonly print 4x6 so I need a high level of resolution to match my wet prints. Accordingly, the 2200 would be a large chunk of cash to print 4x6's. I've used and sold a C86 with the EZN inks. I am a mac user, and for some reason the driver did not provide acceptable results. When used with a mac, I would get something similar to banding - but it was as if the printhead was scraping the paper. With a PC, I never could make this happen. Also, I've used and closeted an HP 7660 with the #59 cartidge. It's a good system, but the premium plus matte paper has a distinct white color base that I find unacceptable. So, I've tried it all. I like the capabilities of the R800, but would like to make a neutral BW print on matt papers. It seems the red and blue carts will provide an excellent color mixing option for QTR, but has anyone tried it? As the R1800 is coming, I'm sure this combination will be highly successful. Thanks in advance, Don

I have tested 2880 with QTR on my 9600 and frankly could not see any improvement over 1440 even under a loupe. Thanks for the comment Tariq, I did a 20x30 monochrome today at 1440 and it took quite a long time to print but the resuls were certainly worth waiting for - flawless tonality. But for the large things I just can't imagine waiting longer. Love these color tone possibilities. I've never had such subtley of color variation to work with. DON- IMHO if you need these any time soon, this isn't the time to learn large format AND new inks. You might want to look for someone to do them for you. If it is months away you have a better chance. Time's no issue as the show isn't hung until June, and I have loads of experience in the digital darkroom with various printers/inksets. I'm currently running an epson 1160 with UT-FSN, but have used pretty much every system from the original Piezo to UT2 on a 1280. Accordingly, I wasn't asking as a noob but a potential user of QTR with the R800 or 2200. Searching through the posts, I read that Roy is working on QTR for the R800, and many 2200 owners are happy with their results. My main issue with the 1160 is that as I print small, the viewers are sensitive to the dotty highlights when viewed at close distances. As the R800 has the smaller drop sizes, it seems to be an excellent printer for my purposes when the R800 QTR is released.
