OT: Nikon Capture 4.2

OT: Nikon Capture 4.2

2005-02-24 by scott_now_coming

Anyone here using Nikon Capture v.4.2?

It is running so slow on my two computers, it's un-usable.

It takes almost a minute to open a file.

All tools cause slow operation (not just the NR feature).

My computers are:

Sony Vaio Notebook P41.6 ghz, 512mb Ram, Win XP Home

Desktop P4 1.6ghz, 1024mb Ram, Win XP Pro

You can e-mail me off list if you like.

Thanks for any help,

Scott

Yep. Exceptionally slow even on a 2Ghz AMD with 2GB of RAM, Win XP
Pro. Batch processing is an all-day event

It is exceptionally slow when viewing multiple thumbnails. Also--- In

I just installed Nikon Captue 4.2 in my mac with
10.3.8 and did not notice a loss in speed. The thing is
I have not used it a lot.I am getting a D2x, thats the
reason for me going to 4.2. Francis Ford

Which camera's NEF are you using?

Both my P4 3GHz (1G Ram) and P4 2.6GHz (2G Ram) running XP-pro are
fine with my D100 NEFs. I don't find much difference in speed compare
to 4.1 so far.. (Although I haven't used it much recently after upgrade).

Takes about 4sec on my heavily loaded 3GHz to open a 9M D100 NEF file,
changing WB, etc is a snap.

(8400 NEF is another story.. it is much slower)

I was wrong,it slower way slower....ridiculous! I just
installed it two days ago and did not check it very
well.I think 4.2 takes about twice as long as
4.1.Bummer.....Franci Ford

Hi Michael,

I should have mentioned: D70.

I read a review of the new D2x this evening, and it mentioned NC 4.2
being a resource hog, needing at least a gig of ram.

I like the software, but it's pathetically slow. Batch processing
takes forever.

I upgraded to 2G of ram recently.. may be that's why I didn't notice
much difference. Haven't done any batch job in NC4.2 yet.. I wonder
what would happen with a D2X NEF which is twice as big..
