In general, that is correct.

With curves you can print on glossy paper with the UT2 inkset and Eboni in
the K position. The curves generate a good dmax with the 2 dark gray inks.
The curves cut the Eboni out entirely with glossy paper.
Since the dmax the curves can generate with the 2 dark grays is often as
good as or better than the PK, I stopped supporting the PK in these inksets.
On the other hand, this was before PKN was around. I suspect PKN might
generate the best dmax.
If you want to print using sliders, for example from a non-Photoshop
program, then you'd have to use PK or PKN for glossy paper.
Because I like to be able to print on matte paper, I always have Eboni in my
hextone printers and use the 2 dark grays to generate the black with
appropriate curves.
