UT2, 1280 problems

UT2, 1280 problems

2005-03-08 by Robert Krawiec

Hi All,

I'm hoping someone on the list can give me a clue on
this problem, because I'm going nuts!

I recently bought a replacement 1280, my old one
having died. I'd been using UT2 inks in my old 1280
and was very happy with the results. So, I loaded up
UT2 inks in my new 1280 and the same images are
printing horribly! The midtones are printing too dark
and the shadows have a dull cast to them.

I've checked the nozzles and they are fine, the only
thing that looks a bit suspect is that, when I run a
purge test, the C and M inks look like they might be
reversed.

Could this (possible) ink reversal be the source of my
problems? How likely is it that MIS messed up? If this
is the problem, how do I correct it? New inks?!

Thanks,

Rob

Hello Rob, unfortunately it is entirely possible the inks are wrong.
I had a similar experience, as did a few other list members. I
didn't have my own "good cart purge pattern" to compare the bad
carts with but comparing it to purge patterns other list member
generously sent me my LM position looked darker. It wasn't until I
actually extracted ink (use a syringe) from the cart and made swab
patches that it became very clear my LM position was much too dark.
MIS sent me replacement carts and I have made some prints I'm really
pleased with.

You might want to search the archives using - bad UT2 1280 carts
confirmed - and also - More on MIS UT2 cart problems - (minus the
dashes) you'll get to a number of posts with good info concerning
this issue.

If you decide to contact MIS I recommend that you call them instead
of using their email system if time is a concern for you.

If your UT2 prints look too dark, you should check to see if the cartridge
was loaded correctly. This is done by printing a color test file (Purge6-2)
and comparing the results to scans of what the print should look like.

The test files are on my web page at
http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/Test-files.htm

If you have a bad cart, contact MIS. They will replace it.

Mistakes happen.

<when I run a purge test, the C and M inks look like they might be
reversed.>

Had the same problem and that (reversed C & M) was the exact cause. MIS
replaced the cartridge immediately.Just call them and they will send a
replacement ASAP.

"storing" a CFS

2005-03-08 by Allan Chen

Hi all,
So my 15 month old 1280 has apparently died, printing those horizontal
lines across the page (circuit board issue, as some on this list have
attested to). I need to take it in to get a repair quote (and then
decide if I want to fix it, get a new one, or just forget about B&W
printing for a while), but I need to figure out how to store the CFS.
Can I just tape off the nozzles? How long do you think I could get away
with that? Couple of weeks? Or is it one of those "keep my fingers
crossed" kind of deals?

thanks,
allan

Thanks for all the responses. I'm still not sure what
the problem is. I tried reloading the cartridge to no
avail. I also printed from photoshop using Paul
Roark's curves and from QTR, both giving me the same
problem.

I contacted MIS and they claim to not have had any
problems recently but they did recommend doing a swab
test.

Thanks again!

Rob
