IJC/OPM or QTR with Qimage

IJC/OPM or QTR with Qimage

2005-03-13 by yah_group

I have tried this question on the Qimage group with no response, so
will try here. I have recently ordered Qimage and would like to know
which is the most compatible programme to use with Qi - IJC/OPM or
QTR. I have read much about the difficulties with QTR although I
know there are workarounds. My level of expertise makes me question
whether I would be up to the workarounds; but IJC/OPM might have the
same issues. (I will be working with a 7600 and UC).
Your advice would be appreciated.

David,

I'm very familiar with IJC/OPM and love it, but don't have or use
Qimage. You may sish to send an email to Joe Berndt at Bowhaus and
see if he can answer how or if IJC/OPM works with Qimage. His email
is software@.... I know OPM will print TIF, PSD, JPG,
grayscale, RGB, 8 bit and 16 bit images, so it is very flexible. The
Windows version of OPM also has a set of sliders for RGB images, very
similar to Photoshop's channel mixer, so you can blend channels on
the fly. Unlike PS, it also has a checkbox to retain overall
luminosity, so the sliders work in concert with one another.

Sorry but, what is IJC/OPM?

Thanks

I haven't had any problems with QTR ( on Max OSX Panther) on my 9600 or
on my students and friends 2200 machines (mac) , other than the fact that it is
quite slow for very large prints and requires usb rather than firewire
connectivity right now for some printers. It works fine for rolls and sheets and
the interface is very easy to navigate. It took me exactly one hour to figure out
everything I needed to know. I started selling high-end toned monochrome
prints from that combination immediately. I am so happy it exists.

Since QTR is free to try and only $50.00 to purchase why not try it? You
certainly have more flexability with other rips but you pay for it, and you might
not need those features........or you might.

Thanks Louis

I read your tutorial on IJC/OPM and was impressed by the screen
shots and clarity of explanation - this makes me favour IJC more as
I find it difficult to get an overview of QTR even though I know
people rate it highly. I do have an Eye1, whether that would make
one programme better than the other for me, I do not know? I will
take your advice and ask Bowhaus. Hopefully some QTR aficionados
will chip in as I love Roy Harringtons Loco photos and would be a
very happy bunny if I could approach that.

Thanks

David

Wow - I have never been in a position with this group where I can
actually answer a question. IJC/OPM (Ink Jet Control / Open Print
Maker) is a RIP which specializes in producing neutral B&W prints
from colour inks or quad black inks and as such is similar to QTR in
function if not in price. That is as far as I dare go without
showing myself up. Try www.bowhaus.com.

Thanks John, perhaps I am reading more difficulty into QTR than
actually exists

Thanks David,

I use QTR on a 2200 at the moment, I learn more about it as a go.
This looks nice too.

I use both IJC/OPM (highly recommended!) and Qimage and the two work
OK together. I tend to use Qimage for multi-image layouts and use its
print to file feature. I can then load the resulting file into OPM
for printing. The results are excellent.

Sorry if this is a silly question - but why don't you print directly
from Qi?

To make use of the IJC created profiles I need to make the final
print from OPM. I print directly from QImage for colour work.
