David, I may be misunderstanding the question and answer, but the profile you are referring to is a paper profile and would be used both in printing and in softproofing in Photoshop but I don't think it can be used as a curve for QTR (though you certainly do put the curves for QTR . Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

I have many paper profiles (which ARE placed as you say), some custom, some from paper sellers, but I can't use those in QTR (the QTR profiles are in C/program files/QTR/profiles). I, too, have wondered why there is no Hahnemuhle Photorag curve for the 2200 with OEM inks (nor one for the Epson Velvet, but I use the EEM curves and set my own blending and save that preset). I do have HPR curves for the 1280 with the UT2 inks (but haven't yet decided whether I am going to try them or not--I don't believe so as I'm having very good results with the 2200 and OEM inks)

Hi, I'm new here and so this is a newbie response but you do have to place the curve info for papers other than those originally covered in the QTR package. Treat it the same as you might for PS. On PC's in XP you need to put it in system32/spooler/driver/color ... that may not be exact but you'll see the folder if you go looking. Get the porfile from a web site of a reseller or the company itself. You'll need one specific to your paper and (often) light conditions. You could try either lexject.com or the company site (I do not know that).

neglected to proofread this before sending and 'though you certainly do put the curves for QTR'---should have been deleted--means 'nada' and I explained where the QTR curves were further down in post. Just didn't want this to be confusing.

Come on people, QTR paper curves are not the same as ICC profiles. The man
is asking for QTR curves for HPR - not ICC profiles. If you need a curve
for HPR you can make one with the necessary equipment or someone who has
made a curve can distribute one. The EEM curve is a good substitute in the
interim - I can tell you that about the only change that would be made is to
redo the linearization.

Re: [Digital BW] Re: Curves for Photo Rag and QTR for Windows

2005-04-01 by Diane Fields

Yes, Steve I understood that. I thought that was what I was pointing out--that they are not the same thing and that to my knowledge there is no readily available Hahnemuhle Photorag curve for QTR for the 2200 OEM inks (I haven't read of anyone willing to share one). I didn't go into the fact that he would have to create one. Maybe I should have said ICC profiles vs. QTR curves, but I was trying to be a bit diplomatic in my response---LOL. Probably it came across more as being not informative enough.

I appreciate knowing that the EEM curve is very similar--because, in fact, that is what I am using.

I have curves installed in QTRgui identified as UCmk-HPR2200 -cool and -warm, which are intended for Hahnemuhle Photorag. I believe I got them from Walt Farrell (sftemp1@...). Are these useful for you?

Thank you very much. I'll try requesting the curve from him and try it out. At the moment I am printing out step wedges on various papers. Should have done this before for reference, but I was so excited working with QTR that I found a blend I liked and have been using it. However, it just seems reasonalble to see all the possibilities on different papers (or at least 'some' of the possibibilities).

I posted the following to the group back in October. The Hahnemuhle
Photo Rag profiles you are looking for are in the zip file.
-----------------------
I've put a zip archive containing Epson 2200 QTR profiles (.quad files)
for several papers on my filesharing site. The file to download is
titled QUAD2200.zip and it can be found here:
http://homepage.mac.com/scho/FileSharing2.html

The papers included are as follows:

Papers for use with UC Photo Black ink (pk):
PJO - Permajet Oyster
MCL- InkJetart Microceramic Luster (can also be used for Epson premium
luster)
OrientalFB - Oriental Graphica Fiber Base Glossy
EPreSemiGl - Epson Premium Semigloss

Papers for use with UC Matte Black ink (mk):
MBW- Piezography Museum Bright White (also for Entrada Bright white or
Condor BW)
EFAn - Entrada Fine Art Natural
HPR - Hahnemuhle Photo Rag
PremierFineArt - Premier Fine Art Natural (same as epson ultrasmooth)
EEnhMatte - Epson Enhanced Matte

For use with any RC paper - uses no black ink so either pk or mk can be
loaded:
UC-RC-NoK

Re: [Digital BW] Re: Curves for Photo Rag and QTR for Windows

2005-04-02 by Diane Fields

Ann, first, go to Carl Schofield's site which he gave a link for in a post just a few minutes ago. Download the file and save it to a folder where you place your downloads (I maintain a download folder on my desktop--dated, which I back up often to another drive). In that folder I create new folders--for instance I have one for QTR. In QTR, I would make another folder, name it 'QTR curves'. Save the zip file to it. Now, double click on the zip file. It will open the zip dialog box, choose extract and in that dialog box, browse for C/programs/Quadtone RIP/Profiles/2200-UC and extract to that folder. When you open QTR GUI, you will now see them in your dropdown box for curve choices.

Hope this helps. If you need more help, email me directly.

Diane

Where does one put these profiles on (in?) a Mac? I seem to remember
that QTR had a separate installer for the profiles that were included.
Or am I just confused as usual?

I provided the .quad files for PC users awhile ago, before they had the
option of generating their own profiles from curve descriptor files.
On a Mac, the install script will generate the .quad files from the
text curve descriptor files and then put the .quads in a folder with
your printer name (eg. Quad2200) inside the CurveDropBox folder.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
