Anyone doing wireless printing? I'm looking to build a wireless print server (or blue tooth or whatever will work) for an Epson 4000 and 2200 (and maybe an 1850) and would like to not reinvent the wheel. If anyone is doing this successfully, I would love to hear what hardware you like. thanks, Tom O'Connell

I use a D-link wireless router which provides for both wireless connectivity to the Net & access to a printer from any wireless enabled computer in range. I use it with a laser printer, but see no reason it would not work with any printer. It does require a parallel connection, but other routers may have USB ports. It was very simple to setup. Steve

Well the easiest way to do it if your runnig a wireless network allready is to get a linksys printserver it comes in two version wireless or wired both can have USB or Parell Ports. Even if you have a complete wire network you can use the wireless one as it hooks into your network wired also. SO then all wired computer or wireless ones can print to the hook up printers. Right now I have two printservers and run a HP laser, Epson RX500 all in one, Cannon i900, Cannon i6000D in the near will get rid of the Cannons and getting the 1800 and 2200 or the just the 4000 not sure yet. Thats why I join this group to learn about Black and White printing. The cheaper route for me would be the C86 and 1800. Anthony Stephen Kobrin wrote:

Hate to be obtuse...but... I'm using a dlink router now. Are you saying I can just get a lynksys printserver with a usb port and plug all my printers into a hub and plug the hub into the wireless print server and that's it??? I thought only some printers could be networked? does the usb print server make them all work??? thanks tom

yes any printer can be used on a printserver in the printer properties you just have to make sure you have the port set up. I have not tried the hub but I see no problem with hooking up a usb hub and connecting that to a printserver usb port and configure your printer to see the server and them tell your printer what port. any problems you can email off line. this is somewhat easy. anthony Tom OConnell wrote:

I've tried a Belkin wireless print server to connect my Epson 2100 with minimal success. Apart from driver issues causing lack of reliability and very slow performance, the fact that the server did not support bidirectional communications was a pain - StatusMonitor3 wouldn't work. You can mark the virtual port "unidirectional" in its properties, but that doesn't seem to help reliability in this case. I think that many wireless print servers do not support bidirectional communications, so that may need checking. Second, check that it support USB 2.0 (not just 1.1). --Kip --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Anthony S. I've got both OS X Macs and PCs (XP), and I need to share an Epson 1270 between all my computers. I'd love to have the printer on the network with a wireless (or wired) print server, but I haven't been able to tell if it would really work. The Mac and XP PC are in different rooms, so a USB switch is not a possible solution. It seems that laser printers are often in a different category, because some of the sharing schemes require the use of PostScript. Has anybody succeeded in setting up something similar? What hardware did you use? Anthony, what operating systems are you running? Thanks!

I don't have a Mac and a PC but I do have two PCs with different operating systems (XP and ME). One of the PCs is connected to a 1280 in one room and the other PC is connected to a 2200 in a different room. I can print to the 2200 from either computer using NetGear wireless equipment (about $200 at Comp USA).

David: here's what I did to share a couple printers between three computers. I run XP-win2000 and a version of OS/2warp called eComStation if you don t know windows does not like to play nice with it. I had the HP1300 which has a USB and Parelle Port on it, hook the USB to a Linksys usb print server and let all three computers set up their own driver for the print server and installed the hp drivers. Then I hook up another print server and hook up a Epsom C80/84 to it did same thing the print servers were wired servers hook into a 10/100 hub hook directly into the ports on the Router, which the separate computers were also hook up. I have not been able to make OS2 and the wins play with each other but I am able to print to all printers with all OS's and go out on the Internet. I then hook up a Epsom RX500 USB into XP and let win2000 printer thru XP when needed. I then hook up two Cannon's into the win2000 and did the same thing. Problem with eComStation is some of the newer printers don t have drivers. At work we have a NT server and I bought in a parelle port print server I had left over and hook up it and NT and my win2000 box and the new xp's can all see the print server and print to the printer without going thru NT server. Sometimes the NT boxs print to the printer real slow, takes a while for print job to start once starter prints normal. I have not had that problem at home though. I have also hook up a printer this way too. eComStation and XP the OS2 box hook up to the parelle port and the XP hook up to the USB port, never had a problem printing from either box. That may be a way for you, does not the 1280 have USB and parelle ports. Anthony Dave wrote:
