QTR .quad and .qidf

QTR .quad and .qidf

2005-04-09 by Tom Husband

In my quad2200 folder in the quadtone folder I have .quad paper
profiles/curves. In my 2200-uc folder in the profiles folder I have
.qidf paper profiles/curves. When I go into Curve Creation in QTR and
open a file it's a .qidf. Sorry but what's the difference between
.qidf and .quad? I have UC-EEnhMatte-cool.quad and
UC-EEnhMatte-cool.qidf but I only have UCmk-MBW-cool.quad and not
UCmk-MBW-cool.qidf.

Thanks,

Tom

OT: German Frame & Mat Supplier

2005-04-09 by Howard Shaw

I had a nice conversation with Reinhard Dreger from Passepartout-Versand, an
online retailer of custom made frames & mats based in Germany. Their web
site can be found here:

http://passepartout-versand.de/

They seem like a nice operation with a good website and I think, reasonable
prices.

He mentioned that he is looking for a UK based representative to help expand
his business in this country. This person should be a professional
photographer or artist who would like a small sideline reprsenting the firm.
Remuneration would be commission-based.

More information can be found at

http://passepartout-versand.de/uk78500

If you are interested contact details are given on that page.

Thanks
Howard Shaw

The Quad Ink Descriptor Files (.qidf) are the "human readable" form of the curve
files. Kind like the difference between Source Code and Object Code in computer
programming if that means anything to you. There is more information in the
.qidf file in some cases, information that is only needed when creating the
.quad curve, not when using it for printing.

The Ucmk-MBW-Cool.quad file you have did not come from the QuadToneRIP
installation. You probably got it from Carl Schofield's WEB site. Last I looked,
he wasn't providing the ink descriptor files to go with his quad files.

Right, the Ucmk-MBW-Cool.quad file came from Carl Schofield. I
understand a little more now..sort of.

I put up the .quad files for PC users before they had the capability to
use the text ink descriptor files. The ink descriptor files have now
been added to the QUAD2200 archive. These were originally for use on
the Mac so I'm not sure if any special formating is required for the
PC. I just added a .qidf suffix.

The file format is fine. However, all the files are named with the suffix
.qidf.txt. That's OK, because the QTRGui can open them if you select "all files"
in the File Type drop-down.
