Reflection densitomer

Reflection densitomer

I'd welcome recommendations for a reasonably priced reflection
densitometer - one suitable for measuring densities of digital black
and white prints.

Thank you.

A very commonly used densitometer for this purpose is the X-Rite 810.
This model is frequently available in used but excellent condition on
eBay. You can buy good ones (make sure it has the calibration plate)
for under $200 (although after I bought mine for $150 last month, the
next few 810s sold for over $250).

I looked it up on ebay and the price is, as you indiated, above $200.
I'll keep trying for a somewhat lower price.

By the way, do you know if anyone has been successful using a
reflection exposure meter for this purpose?.

Thank you.

Prices vary widely. I bought an x rite 820 for $125 several weeks
ago. Others go for well over $200. Alos, there are a variety of
other densitometers that for for much less from time to time. One
nice thing about the X rites is that they have owner's manuals on
their web site.

"Beyond the Zone System" by Phil Davis describes a method to do
this.
I haven't done it and don't know how accurate it is.
