Re: MIS UT2 CIS from 1280 in a Stylus Photo

Thanks Don for your help ... I bought mine on ebay,
refurb, for $69 + shipping and received it yesterday.
I have installed the OEM inks to check out the machine
and am blown away by both the BO and color prints on
EEM I have gotten. I am thinking of getting another
to use with what color pics I want. I have developed
a problem that I think is a Photoshop problem, not a
printer problem in that it no longer wants to print in
color using PS7 while the same pic loaded in Irfanview
will print in great color. Have uninstalled and
reinstalled the latest Epson driver but no joy.

I have not yet taken on installing the MIS UT2 CIS
inks but it looks like a pretty simple install. I am
actually thinking about buying a couple of the new
clear refillable carts, they are cheap enough, and
just using the inks I have from the CIS and avoid all
the tubing.

BTW, what is the CMCMY config? and you say you use
Pauls regular UT2 curves? Sounds interesting,

<<Jerry,

I have just installed MIS UT Full Spectrum inks with
Eboni black in the new CMCMY
configuration in my Stylus Photo 900. Using Paul's
curves, the prints are quite stunning on
any matte papers that I have thrown at it. As these
inks and curves are specifically for the
1280, I can only assume that your inks will work in a
similar fashion.

Since the 900 uses the same inks as the 1280, you get
the larger capacity color cartridge
with the small format printer. Also, they are going
for a steal online, but I purchased mine
from Arditios as a close out for 109 (new).

You got a great deal. I too like the look of this printers BO output, I'm going to do a few
images on HPR with eboni, as it has a very nice TRI-X look and stunning tonality.

The cartridge I received prefilled with UT-FS was provided in one of the new clear
spongeless carts, so refilling it should be a breeze (kudos to MIS). As I have a bit of Eboni
left, I also ordered an empty black clear cartridge. The cartridge was extremely easy to
virgin fill, and use right away. This is much more convenient than the old sponge style
that needed 3-24 hours after filling for use. After a clean nozzle check (3 cleaning cycles)
I haven't had clogging or other issues.

CMCMY is the new ink position for UT FS/FSN monotone inksets using only CMY inks.
Previously for the 6 inks printers, you would either need the PIezo/R9 driver, or use 5
separate dilutions of ink in the CcMmY cartridge when printing with the Epson driver. The
current setup uses 3 inks in the cartridge's 5 positions in a CMCMY order; cyan ink in the
cyan and magenta positions, magenta in light cyan and light magenta positions, and
yellow in the yellow position. With this setup, you can either print with the Epson driver,
or utilize Paul Roark's curves for greater tonality. These are not the UT2 curves, but
curves specifically written for the Full Spectrum / Full Spectrum Neutral inks found on his
website. While the curves are written for the 1280, they work perfectly with the 900.

Eventually I am going to purcase a UT2 cartridge to test this printer with QTR (and Paul's
curves), but my current need is for a monotone inkset - and I am completely pleased with
this ink / printer combination. - So a big thanks to Paul is in order, as well as to MIS.
