Yes, the Innova Soft Texture is very similar to Hahnemuhle German Etching
paper. They are both archival alpha cellulose papers with a wonderful texture
and thickness. The texture is what I perceive as halfway between German
Etching and Hahnemuhle Photorag, which are themselves pretty close in
surface. This may end up being my all time favourite paper. It is what I always
wished Somerset Velvet or German Etching could have been. This paper
seems to have the strength of Somerset and the beauty of G. Etching.
As I write this I am doing a show for one of my clients on the Soft Texture,
which is in color with Ultrachrome. This paper just works fantastic with
Ultrachrome. It is one of the easiest papers I have evey worked with. The
gamut is great, the blacks are great, it is tough. I just don't have anything
negative to say about it at all. I always loved German Etching too since I first
used it about 6 years ago. But I had trouble with the blacks chipping off and
the surfacing scratching. I've had none of this with Innova. This past week I did
about 25 small black and white things with these Innova papers and I am sold
on them 100%. And as you know the price is right.
The Soft Cotton is actually slightly finer in texture than H Photo Rag and very
slightly thinner than the PR 308. I think they really researched these products
because it is quite nice to have a very smooth 100% white rag to work with
with all size images. I am very pleased at how it functions with even things as
small as 8x10 for portfolios. It could be a little thicker but the price and coating
have sold me.
The new one, the Cold Press Fine Art I belive is similar to W. Turner but I
haven't ordered any yet. Since William Turner is one of my all time favourite
media I am very curious to try the Cold PFA.
Jim Doyle has been great in letting us sample these great new papers. And I
plan on doing a lot of business with him this year because of his knowledge
and enthuasism with these great papers.
Sorry I don't know anything about the Intelicoat media.
