Canson

Scott,
"Canson" is is part and parcel of the Arjo Wiggins/ Canson
Group They own Arches - however the coatings used on the strictly "Canson"
papers is was developed for the lower resolution market and because
they were the dominant partner they chose to only use the lower
resolution coatings. The coating on Arches was specialy developed for it. They do
how ever have a coating wich was developed at Beconsfield which ,as a
surface coating was at the time superior to any thing on the market, we
have small quantaties of papers with this coating on and as surface
coatings go still produces far higher quality Photo prints (particularly
black and white) than I have seen anywhere else. Arjo made a beautiful
cotton paper called "Goatskin Parchment" this is what I have a few sheets
off and which I guard with great care, and only use for very very
special prints.
We have frequently tried to get them to make more but the Canson side
of the group refuse and I can tell you that it is so supeirior to Arches
that you cant belive it.
