Budget MF scanner

Budget MF scanner

2005-05-03 by Richard Smallfield

Hi,
I just splashed out on a Mamiya RB67 and will be needing another scanner.

I've been recommended two things: a second-hand Epson 2450 or higher, or a new Canon 8400F.

Has anyone any experience of the Canon?

thanks,
Richard

Richard, don't forget to consider the two scanners' differing ability
to batch scan a sequence of negatives and their differing ability to
hold strips of negatives.

As well, there's Doug Fisher's anti-newton glass carrier to
consider...don't know if it fits the Canon...take a look... On my
Epson 3200 (American) with 6X9 it holds film flat, adds sharpness thru
improved focus, eliminates newtons rings, adds a little hassle.

You might ask Doug for his thinking on your question...he's very
responsive, is unbiased and the only reliable online expert.

If you know someone with the Canon I suggest you mail/give a negative
to them, comparing that to the used Epson you're considering. I did
that with my Epson Vs an earlier high-end Canon.

Your website is a beauty! Nice shots, excellent design.

I especially like your beer-drinking executive portraits :-)
