So I bought a Loup, Now What?

So I bought a Loup, Now What?

I remember reading that a loup can be used instead of a densitometer
to help create custom curves on QTR. How does that work? Can anybody
explain how this is done?

When you make your first Ink Separation Test Print you have to
determine where on the 21 step strip there the ink completely fills
the patch, the "max out" point. You place the dried print on your
lightbox and examine with the loup. Evaluate each ink. If you
haven't got a copy, of the Quadtone RIP User Guide, get it from Roy's
website. This particular issue is dealt with on pages 12-13. Good
luck.

More to the point, the loupe does NOT replace a densitometer.
