I am so sorry for you. Of course the 1800 does not replace the 2100. Unfortunately this is typical for the Epson policy - they are the same in Germany - it seems to be a part of their corporate identity. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I reviewed the Epson site. There is no mention of this new printer being discontinued. It appears to be in stock in many places. I have been considering adding this printer to my workflow. I have been very impressed by the build quality. I would not want to purchase and have a major price drop in two weeks. Are you sure that Amazon is not making one of the many mistakes that they are so famous for over the years? Bob

I wonder what the problems are. Outback photo noted some profile problems as well as issues with the Glop. See http://www.outbackphoto.com/printinginsights/pi033/Epson_R1800.html Perhaps Epson wants to iron out these problems on the smaller printer before putting more eggs in that technological basket. From what I've seen of the MIS version of glop, I'd move slowly on that front. I wonder also if the smaller dot size is an issue with more clogging or other problems. Here's the reply that I got back from Epson when I asked about the statement on Amazon's web site about the R1800 being discontinued. I would have used "Fortunately" instead of "Unfortunately"! "Thank you for contacting the Epson Connection. Unfortunately the statement on the Amazon.com website is incorrect. The R1800 is not being discontinued. If you require further assistance with this particular issue, please ensure all of our previous correspondence is contained in your reply, so we can better track the history of this issue. If you have a different technical support issue, please submit another E-form via our website (http://www.epson.com), and we will respond in a timely manner. Thank you again for contacting Epson. They probably haven't decided yet. --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Scott West" < westsdad@c...> wrote: > Here's the reply that I got back from Epson when I asked about the statement > on Amazon's web site about the R1800 being discontinued. >I would have used "Fortunately" instead of "Unfortunately"! >>Unfortunately the statement on the Amazon.com website is >>incorrect. The R1800 is not being discontinued. He probably meant that it is unfortunate that Amazon would make such a mistake. I saw a similar misunderstanding in a dpReview forum last night. In a discussion of a digicam's features someone said "I don't care if it's got a good lens", and was taken to task that he was particular about ergonomics but didn't care if it had a good lens. What he meant was just the opposite, he didn't care so much about other stuff as long as it has a good lens. A well placed comma would have communicated more clearly and avoided a lot of the resulting bandwidth: "I don't care, if it's got a good lens", or even better "I don't care, as long as it has a good lens".
