Does anybody know: With the new higher ink limits for certain printers (like my 1280) do the profiles need to be recreated?

If the ink limits for your printer model changed, you will need to readjust your profiles if you want to use the new version. If you start with cutting the existing limits in half, you will find that an older profile will then be very close. What I do is once I¹ve set the new lower limit, I then can slowly increase just the black ink up. This lets me play around with the increasing D-Max. The trick is not to go too high, too much ink can re-duce D-Max. Joe Berndt [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Does this apply to all the inks, or just the black? Thanks, Bill Morse Digital Eye Editions 450 Harrison Ave. Studio 227 Boston, MA 02118 (617) 429-3298 http://digitaleyeeditions.com on 6/3/05 6:02 PM, Joe Berndt wrote: > On 6/3/05 1:08 PM, "keithd2010" <kdouglas@...> wrote: > >> > Does anybody know: With the new higher ink limits for certain printers >> > (like my 1280) do the profiles need to be recreated? >> > > > Yes, > > The older profiles will need to be adjusted. The ink limits were increased on all ink positions for specific printers. It's not that difficult to switch over. Let's say you had a profile for a 2200 on EEM that you wanted to use as a basis for your 7600. Let's also assume the 2200 had the black ink limit set at 24 for that profile. The other ink limits would be set at different points. If you printed an ink limit chart with IJC/OPM for your 7600, and it showed that you get the deepest black at step 14, you could ratio your ink limits in the new profile as follows: Set black ink limit to 14 (per your ink limit test chart). Then ratio back your ink limits using 14/24 (or 0.58) as the multiplier. So, if the LK ink position was previously set at 15, you would adjust it to 8 (14 X 0.58 = 8.17). Do the same for the rest of the active inks. This will get you very close to where you want to be. Then if you wanted you could make final tweaks to perfect the profile to your tastes. If you had previous profiles for your printer, you would do the exact same thing. This assumes you are keeping the inkset and papers the same, of course. I've placed scans of the old and new ink densities on my web page, at the bottom of the index at http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/index.htm. This might also help translate the old ink limits into the new. This was printed on a 7600 with UT7 on EEM, but the relative outputs might be close to others. Pull the image into Photoshop and use the eyedropper to measure the density of the patch that represents the old ink limit you set. Then use the eyedropper to find the new ink limit that prints at the same density. Hope this is helpful. Paul www.PaulRoark.com
