tif-desaturate-QTRgui?

tif-desaturate-QTRgui?

2005-07-04 by Djon

I'm trying to use QTRgui to print a TIFF from old VPSII * color
negative (early C41).

QTRgui does OK directly from the color, but for some reason it doesn't
want to print from desaturated/adjusted B&W.

What am I missing here?

Black Only is handsome, but out of curiosity I'd like to use QTR,
which I was using a lot earlier today with B&W negative scans.

* Surprisingly this 25-yr-old 35mm color negative actually makes a
decent color print, scanned Nikon V with Vuescan. It was crossed over
when new and it's still that way, so B&W seems a good route :-)

A little more information might be helpful. What happens? Is there an error
message? Does the print not come out the way you wish?

Sorry...should have detailed:

1)

The gui responds as if a print was made from the desaturated Tiff file
but nothing happens. The file is described by the system as a Tiff (
failure to print is like the failure of an inappropriate type of file
such as jpeg).

2) Tiffs of color images (full color, not desaturated) print as B&W
using QTR..I've done this a lot, previsualizing the B&W from color.

3) Desaturated Tiffs print nicely in Black Only, but won't print using
QTRgui.

4) B&W negs scanned to Tiff print properly with QTRgui and of course
with Black Only.

I've turned the printer off and rebooted the PC but this hasn't helped.

There is a log file created when QTR prints. There might be something in the log
file that Roy could look at. It is in the program files folder.

How are you creating the desaturated file? What program are you using? Check the
"save" options used when saving the TIFF. They may be incompatible. QTR supports
only uncompressed and LZW compressed TIFFs.

Thanks Stephen...I simply selected "desaturate" in CS2. I didn't
compress the TIFF. I'll repeat the process later today, just for good
measure.
