If you switch the MK for a UC 4000 inkset from original Epson to Eboni should you also change LK to the MIS version? Is there too much of a mismatch in tone between Eboni and Epson LK? I print using QTR.

Hi Andrew, I've only used the Eboni in place of Epson MK. Hadn't ever considered using the MIS LK version. Not sure it would be helpful. But interesting question. I like the results of the Eboni vs Epson MK as the Eboni is more "neutral" - cooler than the Epson MK. I've found the Epson MK too warm for my taste, especially with BO printing. I haven't done the testing with the Eboni on the 4000 like I had done when I had a 2200. I can say without reservation, that I definitely preferred the Eboni ink for ALL my B&W printing on the 2200, both BO and full ink set (using Gray Balancer). But that was all PRE-QTR. In matte prints the MIS LK (standard, not UT7 LK-N) would probably look just like the Epson LK, and Eboni is definitely a useful and compatible switch. On glossy prints, however, the MIS LK would not have as much gloss as the Epson LK. Whether you'd see much difference is debatable, but in trying Epson PK with MIS gray inks, the transition from coated to non-coated pigments caused some roughness. Paul www.PaulRoark.com
