Hello All, Is anyone using Eboni in the R200? Is anyone doing BO with the R200? Thanks very much. Regards, Clayton Info on black and white digital printing at http://www.cjcom.net/digiprnarts.htm

Clayton, I had Eboni in one yesterday. It worked fine. I looked for a BO mode this morning, and it appears the R200 driver has none. Paul www.PaulRoark.com

Clayton, Sorry, I had PKN in the R200 this morning. There is BO for matte paper types. The options change with the paper type selected. I just did a BO with PKN ink and Matte HW paper type selected. The banding was rather bad. I suspect the cheaper Epson printers are just not built well enough to compete with the 1280, 2200 and higher class machines in BO printing. Paul www.PaulRoark.com

Clayton and Paul, I am using a R200 and Epson EEM. I am new to digital printing and the R200 renewed my love for B&W printing that was lost long ago when I no longer had a darkroom. I have learned so much from both of you and the others on this forum, thanks for all that you have done. Regarding the R200, I am using the Epson ink that came with the printer and have done several BO. I do not know what is 'good' yet but I am pleased with most of the results. I am planning to buy some ink and paper from Media Street and use the QTR for the R200. The paper and ink cost just about as much as the printer did! But it is worth using to get my feet wet with until I can get a 2400 or something like it. Any advice about the R200, what to look for in quality prints, inks and papers will be greatly appreciated. The R200 I have bands in BO mode, but is excellent when all the inks are firing. I have not seen prints make with the MS inks, but one thing you'll notice is that costs drop dramatically if you load your own cartridges from bulk ink. The MIS clear, easy-refill carts make this rather painless. In the MIS lineup, UT2 works OK in the R200 with driver controls (the 1280 curves don't work), but I'm probably going to try another approach with it -- not sure what yet, but probably a hextone analogy to the C86 EZ inkset. The R200 is capable of amazingly good prints, at least on matte paper -- visually as good as any printer at any price. In short, this little machine can do essentially perfect prints if set up correctly. So, you should see no artifacts at all. For matte prints the EEM is good for learning and prints that don't need to be archival, but it is acidic and will yellow eventually. For glossy prints, the Costco Kirkland Glossy inkjet paper is about as good and cheap as it gets for letter size. My initial impression is that the r200 prints more differently between matte and glossy papers than most of the other printers I've used. I'm not sure why. Good luck with your B&W.
