Suggested Monitors

2005-08-22 by XJman

Hi All,

I am actively searching for a new monitor for my computer. My old one
is kaput and I am seeking one that will be good for image editing.

Here are my current choices:

Viewsonic Perfect Flat E90F 19-inch CRT
NEC FE2111SB-BK 22-inch CRT
Dell 2125B 21" Trinitron CRT
Viewsonic A91F+ 19" UltraBrite CRT

Anyone with experience with these? Other recomendations (even non-CRT
monitors)?

Is 0.21mm dot pitch better than 0.24? Trinitron technology better?

Much Thanks,

XJman

I've been casually surfing monitors as my old dell trinitron is,
well, kinda old. The NEC DiamondPro 22" CRT looks like
a nice monitor for picture editing.

BTW, I couldn't find a reference on the net the the Dell Trinitron
you mention in your message.

Trinitron is supposed to be sharper than the other CRT tubes - smaller dot
pit is better....it makes for clearer and sharper all other things relative.

In the past I would hesitate about using a LCD but after having no choice in
the matter and using a I-one to calibrate the LCD and the CRT in the office
I realise this - the old thumb of rule that at CRT older than 2 years is not
fully calibrateable is true. OK may the not state of the art HP 15 inch lcd
is new - but the monitor after calibration gives me a almost 95% to 97%
full gray scale - I am thinking that it would be LCD replacement as opposed
to CRT. At those sizes you need a big , sturdy desk or a very liberal
insurance policy if the monitor should drop when the table collapses under
the weight of the monitor.

What's the wisdom about refurb'ed monitors and likeliness
of "calibratability" as it were?
