>>The important question is: who is doing the refurb?<<

The help FAQ on the site says "Refurbishment is done by the manufacturer."

>>(US) factory refurb page unless I missed it. (Do you have a URL that you
could share?)<<

It is offered at newegg.com. I have found them to be very reputable (fast
shipping, good prices) for "new" items. Here is the link but it may be
easier to just go to newegg.com and type in Epson R2400 in the search box.
New units are 789 plus 15 shipping. Refurbs are 553 plus a dollar shipping.
Replacement carts are 10.45 each.

Newegg only offers a 15 day exchange on refurbs. I wonder what warranty
Epson itself offers. If it was a full warranty, that would be good.
Sometimes refurb warranties are shorter. The website states that it is
possible that accessories could be missing. This is a general statement
about all refurbs. Your experience with Epson refurbs sounds like they have
done a good job in the past.

One thing to note, if you have to do a return you must pay the shipping to
return (the replacement unit will be shipped free though). At 34 lbs, that
will cost you $31-ish via USPS and probably a little less via UPS.

Doug,
I would call them to see if it comes with inks and roll holder. That could
be a nasty surprise.

Best regards,

Hi Doug,

I agree Newegg is a good vendor -- I do business with them regularly.
They are also pretty good about giving you the information they have,
and I think John's suggestion about contacting them is excellent.

Here is a quote from the ad on their site:

"The pictures shown are from the NEW version of this item. If you
purchase this Refurbished product you will receive an OEM BAREBONE,
meaning it is just the item itself. Accessory items are NOT INCLUDED
with Refurbished products. Accessories are shown in the pictures so
that customers will know what is missing from the item. "

That may be a disclaimer or it may be the whole story. As John
suggested and the statement above reads, if the unit were to arrive
without inks and roll paper holder, by the time you acquired even the
inks you'd be better off purchasing a new unit.

I've never seen an Epson refurb being sold as a "bare bones OEM"
version. All the refurb printers (over a dozen) that I've purchased
in the past advertised a clear statement of what was included -- and
that was always inks and all accessories.

I'd be cautious, but let us know what Newegg says because it is a
great price... ;>)

Good luck!

Cheers,
Richard
