Did you peel the foil off the top of the cartridges?

Subject: [Digital BW] can't print with C86 and MIS EZN inks

I'm new to this group and to inkjet printing. I just purchased a
refurbished Epson C86 to and a set of MIS EZN cartridges. Since I've
never used an inkjet printer before I may have done something wrong but
I followed the instructions very carefully, I think.

My problem is that after loading the EZN set into the printer, I wasn't
able to get any image at all from the printer. The nozzle check didn't
produce anything on the paper either. Thinking that the print head might
be the problem, I loaded the Epson dye inks that came with the printer
and after one cleaning cycle, the nozzle check pattern was perfect.

I reloaded the EZN set and saw only one very light line in the nozzle
check pattern. The Epson status utility also now shows the EZN
cartridges to getting low on ink.

Does anyone have any suggestions? There are no blinking lights on the
printer.

I didn't at first but did after trying the Epson included carts. Now
when I do a nozzle check, I get a good pattern from the magenta slot EZN
cart but nothing from the others. Since the Epson carts are working
perfectly, it seems I may have done something to the EZN carts by
running them with the foil on. Is there a way to fix them?

Ron, I'm pretty much a novice at this and haven't had to try to solve the
problem you're having, but if I were in your shoes, my next move would be to
seek advice from MIS. In the "grasping at straws" dept, is it possible that
you contaminated the electronic interface on the other 3 carts with
fingerprints? If so, you could try cleaning them..maybe with isopropyl
alcohol.
But, otoh, it seems like the printer would then think something's amiss with
those 3 carts and would return a red light error. So, absent that, I'm
thinking there's in fact some mechanical malfunction going on with those 3
carts. Wish I could be of more assistance. I'd appreciate hearing how you
eventually solve the problem.

Try priming the carts. Using them with the tape not removed may have sucked
air into the chamber just above the printer inlet. I prefer my modified
bottom fill adapter for priming to MIS's version. See

Is there a page somewhere with instructions for the priming procedure
using the modified bottom fill adapter?

Ron,
It's something you do when you refill carts. So maybe this page will
help you. It's one of the steps.
