What's the difference between the UT and UT7 inks for a 2200? Here's what I see. UT7 uses 7 inks and UT uses just 6 with a choice between Eboni and Photo Black making the 7th ink? UT7 uses black, 3 grays and 2 cool toners where UT has only one cool toner. UT can be used with QTR but not the Roark curves where UT7 can be used with both. Is that right? Are the characteristics of the inks different? Thanks, Tom

Tom, > > What's the difference between the UT and UT7 inks for a 2200? The UT for the 2200 was an inkset MIS made for Bowhaus and the IJC rip. It will not run well with the Epson driver. The UT7 inkset is for the Epson driver or a rip. It does not usually have a PK, using the 2 dark grays to generate the black. > Here's > what I see. The basic ink characteristics should be the same. (If there is old stock of one of them, it could have the old base as opposed to the new base.) Paul www.PaulRoark.com

Thanks Paul, How about UT2 and UT7 ink? With the exception that UT2 is for the 1280 any other differences? Tom, > How about UT2 and UT7 ink? With the exception that > UT2 is for the 1280 any other differences? The UT2 and UT7 inksets are close but not identical siblings. The differences were largely dictated by the differences between a driver designed for dye inks (1280) and one designed for pigment inks (2200). In particular, the cyan and magenta channels are switched. The cool ink is in the UT-2 (1280) C & LC positions, but in the UT7 (2200 and other UC printers) M & LM positions. This made for more even printing and a toner that is lower in gamut than the Ut2 toner. How low I can get the gamut of the toners affects the smoothness of the prints by reducing the color contrast between the dots. (The next generation will have even lower gamut -- and no sepia in the default arrangement.) Paul www.PaulRoark.com
