Can someone provide me with a comparison of how this paper looks vs Premium Semi-gloss? In the UK it is only available in 30m rolls and so it's a little difficult to test. In general I would prefer as little gloss as possible and hence the question. Cheers Steve

Steve
It has significantly less gloss than Premium Semi
Gloss and is a very professional looking paper.
Thickness about the same as Premium Luster or Semi
Gloss. Lovely paper really.
Hope this helps

Steve, > > Can someone provide me with a comparison of how this paper looks vs > Premium Semi-gloss? >... I use Premium Semi-matte 24" rolls, and I really like it when sprayed and dry mounted on matte board. I'm hopeful that the new MIS base will do away with the spraying requirement. Epson Premium Semi-matte is a very good, relatively cheap paper. If Premium Semi-gloss rolls were available in the U.S., I'd probably use that paper instead of the Semi-matte. Look at the Semi-gloss lack of OBAs and Wilhelm display life estimates. The Semi-gloss paper base may also be better. The Semi-matte is lower in gloss. However, I compared the various papers to one of my dry-mounted, air-dried, F-surface silver prints, and the Semi-gloss won that contest too. I was going to see if I could find a trans-shipper to carry the Semi-gloss over here, but I couldn't and the price would go up too much. Also, I'm not sure the European Semi-gloss is the same paper we get in sheets over here. Look at the paper thickness. The European roll Semi-gloss appears to be a thinner paper. The Pr.semi-matte is a bit thinner than the semi gloss, and for ABW mode in the 2400, the semi-gloss might have a bit less gloss differential....the surface of the semi-matte is really nice. I choose semigloss as the media for both since there is no semimatte choice in the 2400 driver. Overall, I'd say that both are great, and the semigloss might work a little bit better with ABW mode. Semigloss definitley looks better in color on the 2400.....Doug M

"However, I compared the various papers to one of my dry-mounted, air-dried, F-surface silver prints, and the Semi-gloss won that contest too." Paul, Does the Epson Premium Semi-gloss have less gloss than the Kirkland paper? (The Kirland seems more like e "semi-gloss" paper to me.) Thanks, Scott

Paul, Premium Semigloss is available in the US in Rolls, try here: http://eximvaios.com (under custom cut) I've got 3 rolls on their way to me right now; I live in the UK, and the price was OK considering the service, regards, Jamie Creed. --- "Paul Roark" wrote: --- ... snip ...

Correction to my last post: I have got Premium Glossy on the way to me not Semigloss, but their website states, "We can cut Epson, Sihl and Hahnemühle paper and media to any width. If you do not find the width you need, call us and we will gladly cut it for you," so there is hope. Sorry for the mix up, regards, Jamie Creed. --- "Jamie Creed" wrote:

All I see is the cut Premium Semigloss at http://www.eximvaios.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=2_252_359 See also Epson at http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/ProductMediaSpec.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&i nfoType=Overview&oid=-8777&category=Paper%20&%20Media The only roll I see is a small one. The paper in the US is said to be 10 mil, as is Premium Semimatte. The Australian 24" roll is said to be only 7 mil. See http://www.epson.com.au/consumables/largeformat/C13S041393.html The UK Epson site doesn't seem to list the thickness. At any rate, I'm not sure a 24" wide roll of the same 10 mil Premium Semigloss I get in the US is made anywhere. Paul www.PaulRoark.com

Premium Semi-gloss here comes in two weights: 165gsm (7 mil) and 255gsm (10mil). The heavier version is labelled Premium Semi-gloss 250. The Premium Semi-matte 250 is a little lighter at 235gsm. They also have a Semi-matte Proofing paper which is 155gsm. Each has its own driver setting in the 4800. Take a look here for details: http://www.buyepson.co.uk/category.asp?mainunit=C11C472001&category_name=Ink jet+media&dept=Consumables Click on a paper for full specs. Paul, the next time I come to the US I would be happy to bring a roll for you and ship it out of either NY or DC.

I've got to hang a show, and am ready to stop walking around with a tape measure and string to get uniform height, etc. Instead, I'd like to get a laser level, which should project a level line around the room. Have any of you done this? Any suggestions about which kinds to buy ... or to avoid? Ah duh - I don't know how long I looked at those pages and read the footnotes, completely missing the OBA column! Pity there are no results K3 on Premium Semi-gloss anywhere.

I can't believe the prices listed here: http://www.eximvaios.com It illustrates again how much we get ripped off in the UK. Arggggghhhh!! A 30.5m roll of 16in Premium Semi-matte 250 in the UK is around £85 or $150 (even at today's weaker sterling rate). This site has it at $95. So in the UK we have the pleasure of paying a premium of 59%.
2005-09-24 by Steve Kale
FYI I called them and they don't sell Epson Premium Semi-gloss 250 in rolls and noted that it is not available in rolls at all from Epson in the US.

> Pity there are no results K3 on Premium Semi-gloss anywhere. It's probably relatively the same as the UC inks and proportionate to the MIS pigs. In at least one fade test the PSG was tied with the very best paper tested. I, personally, have probably more confidence in PSG than any other RC paper. The Premium Glossy may be a hair better still, but the surface and bronzing were too much for me. Paul www.PaulRoark.com

I know. I've always had to use the Premium Luster in 44" rolls because of this. I've never understood it, Epson told me the papers were too similar, but I beg to differ. Jamie, I don't see semigloss on the Custom Cut page at eximvaios.com. And I don't see PREMIUM Semigloss anywhere, except in 8.5x11 and 13x19 sheets. No rolls. Does anyone know the difference between Epson's Photo Semigloss and Premium Semigloss papers? Steve

Largely depends on the size of the gallery and how many you can hang at once. Sears, Home Depot, etc should have several models to choose from. They usually have a distance rating. Many models adhere to the wall. I would recommend the one with the most options within your budget. There is always one more thing on the next installation. If using a typical home builders unit, plan ahead to get around corners, dividers, etc. A piece of drafting tape with a reference mark will allow you to move around and keep a consistent height. Use several for accuracy over distances. They make tripod mounted levels for use on large construction projects. (think stadiums) where you can level everything to one point. You'll probably want to rent one if it needs to be that precise. S

It's always been that way. However if you order direct from the USA and they include with the product a low value invoice, things can be very different. Richard

Perhaps - but it needn't remain that way. Anyone buying Epson or Hahnemuhle roll media in the UK should be shot.
